We just got back from a 5-day vacation. We had a neighbor check in on the cats but not change the litter box. When we got back, there was some cat feces in the litter box that was covered in very fuzzy mold. Is this just because it was there for a few days or could it be indicative of another problem?

Since it didn't dry up like most cat poop will, it just means it was more moist than normal. Keep an eye on the new feces now that you are back home. If it is still runny, take the cat to a vet. Otherwise, no worries.

Although it is normal for moist organic material to collect mold, it is important to consider the general mold spore concentration in your atmosphere as heavy mold concentrations can lead to a host of very serious health problems. This could be a warning sign, notably if the mold is accumulating at faster rates than normal.

Really, you /should/ have them clean the litter box.
And because it was left in there, it was the cause of the mold.
Now, I'd consider cleaning out the box as good as possible.
My cats are /super/ fussy if you don't and just magically hold 'it'.
And it's really nice to have a clean litter box that they can climb easily into.

Poop is a "yuk" thing for us but something very delicious for certain bugs and bateria, mould is one of those who loves it, not a problem as long as you have already cleaned up the litter box.

Feces is just recycled food matter. Old food gets moldy. Nothing to worry about.

It was just because it was left there for awhile and it had time to grow on it. If your concerned about your cat, take her to the vet.

It's the age of the feces, don't worry!

Clean it up and you will never see it again.
