Humanity has created many Gods, for example – Gods of Olympus, Ancient Egypt, Babylon and so on. Most of us are atheists about most Gods humanity has created, except the latest craze, the current God in the Bible. Learned atheists have also rejected this version of a God, but some hard-core believers still hang on, presumably until a better image of God is created by man.

Faith in God seems to be nothing more than humans attempting to run away from reality, an excuse to avoid thinking and evaluating evidence. Is faith not just an emotional escape and really just a substitute for opening your eyes to reason?

Believers talk about God creating man in his own image. It’s in the Bible so it’s fact – get a grip, get real. The facts suggest the exact opposite. Man created God in his own image. I’m sure humanity will disregard this God, as they have disregarded all previous Gods, it’s just a matter of time before humanity creates another God that better serves their emotions and image.

God in the Bible wasn't just created.....its been around for 4000 + years, has any other "god" been around that long? No they haven't.

The reason there are so many other religions is because all people are self-centered. We want to do what we want, when we want, how we want, and we don't want some book telling us what to do. So we create other false gods and religions to worship and to make what we know is wrong seem right.

No other religion has been around so long, no other religion can scientifically prove its existence long ago like Christianity and no other religion is true. That's not what anyone wants to hear but that's just too bad.

How is Christianity any more an "attempt to run away from reality" than any other religion? How is Christianity keeping us from "seeing reality?" I want an answer before I go any further on that note.

The reality IS Christianity.

No one created the God in the Bible, although it was a good question with a different view point, that's just not how it worked.

Man created God because he didn't have enough faith to believe in himself. Early man was weak and impressionable. He felt he had no control over the physical world so he created a prophet that would reign in the spiritual world. This was man's way of putting his life into the hands of someone else so he wouldn't have to worry about it. It has often been said that religion is a crutch for people who can't think for themselves. This might be true, but religion is also about instilling fear into the people. It's a way of controlling people without violence and war. You're right to say that man created God in his own image. In other words, man created God in vain. He wanted someone who looked and acted like himself but also all powerful and all knowing. Perhaps one day, when the human race is destroyed, a new race will adopt a god-like figure similar to ours. Read Aldous Huxley's A Brave New World. That should give you a little more insight.

God created Mankind and I could care less what the Atheists have to say cause when Judgement Day comes I will not be standing before Madalyn Murray O' Hair or the ACLU nor will I be standing before You, I will be standing before God.

And ya know what on Judgement Day the ACLU will not even be able to act as Lawyers for anyone because there will be no threats to make a person pay Legal Fees and no Plea Bargains either.

God will Judge everyone on Judgement Day whether the ACLU likes it or not.

Looks that way to me! the trouble with this fixed and absolutist doctrine relying on the written word of the Bible is that there is no room for growth or change and without those two things anything not just religion ossifies, it is dead and belongs to an ancient age, it is well past its time.

The Christians will no doubt go into denial and abuse you now and call you all their usual names in an attempt to discredit you...it's a defence mechanism on their part because they have no real argument.

The one true God is the Creator; so, the Creator can't b created by any creature. He is; not "was"; not "will b". The other gods mentioned were, as u've correctly said, created. Therefore, they have beginnings & ends; they're confined; etc. However, the Creator is not confined; has no beginning; has no end. U do have a right 2 ur opinion, though.

Happy Sabbath 2day.

We all need to make every effort to look at things as objectively as possible. I personally feel that the evidence that the ancient gods are alien beings from other planets, who were once on earth, is very strong. I think this theory explains things better than any other.

The latest craze huh? Yea that sums up Christianity all right...maybe Atheism is just a fad? All you guys do is try and insult Christians and the religions, if you don't believe good for you. Go have a cookie and ponder the meaning of your pointless life.

it's all about having faith in something. If we all didn't have faith we wouldn't try so hard to accomplish things we want. Religion was created to set structure. There is a creator but who's to say he's a good guy or what not.. this is why I'm an agnostic.

yes, my belief is that a monk's carriage broke down, and as a thank you Jesus was created in the carpenter's image. since monk's were the only ones who could write, this fable was interwoven into the other images of god that are out there. faith is not just an emotional escape, it helps people deal with things that they feel are unfair. my view is that life is life, good, bad, and we will all eventually deal with its unpleasantness.

It is psycologically impossible for the human brain not to latch on to a wide-spread phenomenon.

Worshipping an idol is just proof of this.

The only reason people believe in god/jesus/allah/ect is because they are too stubborn to look past what they've had shoved into their faces their whole lives.

People use faith as an excuse to make life better.

"I had a bad day, but god cares about me to make tomorrow better"

"if i pray to god every day and go to church my 'soul' will be happy"

MEH.
