so called born-again people ask when someone says they are christian? Isn't that what being a Christian implies?

So, you are all pretty well saying that being a christian, and living like a christian should, isn't enough, since only certain people are saved? And they belong to specific church groups?

have you been saved means that whatever you've been doing your whole life is wrong and my way is right. The stupid part of it is that the next bible thumper will also be ready to save you next week and again and again.

That is what being a Christian is but some people tell you they are Christian just to make you think they have something they don't. A better question to ask would be, "If you died right now would you be in heaven?" If they can say, Yes, with no hesitation and not beat around the bush about it, then you know they are a Christian. A lot of people's first answer will be, I"ve been baptized, this will not get you into Heaven. Some will say "I go to Church", this will not get you into Heaven. Only the Blood of Jesus will take you to Heaven.

Not to born-again baptists, no. All christians believe in jesus and whatnot, but the different subsets of christianity all have different attitudes.

Those sorts that you describe are, in some manners, the worst type, because they, by and large, regard their own particular subset of christianity to be the only right way to salvation - other forms of christianity are wrong.

Christianity is religion based upon Salvation.

The question is designed to separate out those who profess being Christian, from those that are practicing Christians.

Like most litmus test questions, it avoids asking the question that is really meant, in favor of one that appeals to the prejudices of the person asking the question.

you can call yourself christian and not be saved so they ask that. it's all about your heart whether you truly follow God. Jesus said " why do u call me Lord and not do the things that I say?" Someone can appear to be a Christian on outside but they have sin in their heart but God knows the hearts. So you know you're fine if your heart is right before God. God Bless.

not everyone who is a Christian has been saved. They may put on a good show but that is all it is. So that is why people ask

You are right. You are not a christian unless you have been saved. People may claim they are, but people claim to be things all the time that they are not.

My answer to the 'have you been saved/born again?' question is that I really don't need to be born again, because I got it right the first time.

Of course, many of them don't have a sense of humor, so I've never had a chance to ask them if they get a second belly button if they're born again.

:-)
