probably not. i saw in a documentary once that paintings in art gallery's are that expensive is because the artist wants it for a price then the gallery doubles that amount to make a profit.
i don't think painters make that much because they have to spend so much time to get a good painting out. and most likely why the painter's art is more expensive after they've died is because there can be no more pieces made by that person.

I read recently that Damien Hirst has a personal fortune of about £100 million!
Of course it's debatable if he's a painter or not!
Lucien Freud who is definitely a painter must be in a similar bracket given the recent prices at auction for some of his paintings; £4,152,000 for his 'Man on a chair'-although since he probably wasn't the seller he would have received none of this.
Incidentally the idea of painters only being famous after their deaths is largely a myth. The vast majority of artists who are famous now were also famous and successful during their lives.
The often quoted exception, Van Gogh, was directly in touch with the avant garde of his day (Gauguin, Bernard) and on the cusp of success just before he died.

Actually, I can name two artists who achieved wealth during their lifetimes: Salvador Dali, Andy Warhol and Pablo Picasso. They may have not been as wealthy as Brad Pitt, but then they lived in the earlier parts of the last century when a million$$ was still a million$$.
Today, you can consider any of those fashion designers... They are as rich as the movie stars and they are also artists!! They have to study the same things that I did in order to become fashion designers. They had to learn about the elements and principles of art and how to apply them to their designs.
In short, yes, some artists can become multi-millionaires. It is all in how you market your talent and how you can make it part of the everyday culture. Look into Andy Warhol's work, he was a great at exploiting an image and get the be$t out of the rich people around him...
I hope that this answers your ???

painters can be rich visually and logically but if your speaking financially, painters got rich if they are able to grasp the meaning or the features people or guests would like to see. selling an art piece would actually cost a thousand or more. it all depends on how you are able to bring the viewers into your painting
