Who told you spanking was okay in the first place?

Never spank a girl after 10. It can cause internal damage. The psychollogical trauma is too much at that age too. It becomes a terror thing. Not good at all.
I stopped spanking when creative punishment was more effective. It is better to whisper in their ear and hug and cuddle them in front of their friends than it is to beat them. Beating them after an age causes hurt and resentment that could backfire, the other gets the humiliation factor going... Especially if you are whispering "screw up again you little punk and I will cut off your hair while you sleep."
Creative punishment is SO much more effective. Hiding their best and favorite clothes so they have to wear the salvation army castoffs, and the out of fashion stuff, changing the door locks on their car, removing all the phone lines, shutting off the fuses in their private bathrooms, changing their private cell phone number and not giving them the new one... Put a lock on your own door first...
The best gauge is the reaction the child has after the spanking, how much hate is back there when your child looks at you? If you ever knew your child, you will see when you are close to the line where spanking doesn't work anymore.

Having been a single parent for the last 8 years of my children's adolescence, I chastised them reguarly by spanking them until they were about 12 years old. At that time it was apparent my spankings were no longer needed. I never once spanked them in anger. I told them afterwards that I spanked them because I expected better behavior out of them. And I expected it in the future. If anyone here tells you not to spank them at all, they are full of it. If you spank them, you will end up with wonderful adults. Otherwise, the school system will be raising your children. They dont' belong to them so they really don't care how they turn out. I dont' think they are even allowed to paddle them any more. I got many spankings and I have never been in any kind of trouble as an adult. If someone says pain does not teach anyone anything they are also full of it. If you ever tell a child not to touch something that is hot, their curiosity will get the better of them eventually.... ONCE.. They will only touch it once. The pain teaches them not to ever do it again. Just don't spank in anger. make them wait in their room and go to them when you have cooled off!

Spanking is stupid. When I use to get spankings I never even cried except when i was younger. So I guess you stop about the age of 10, becuz do u know who retarded it looks seeing a 16 year old get spanked? Plus, kids rather get spanked than punished. A spanking only last a few seconds up to a minute. And getting grounded seems like a life time. SO gROUND them before u spank em. yOU spank em a minute and the next they go running around like nothing happened.

Children should never start being spanked in the first place. There are many forms of punishment, and spanking should not be one of them.

I believe in Spanking. If you start early enough with discipline you wont have to spank them very long at all. They need to respect you, and they have to believe that you will punish them with or with out spanking if they deserve it. As for the age question... I think if you are spanking them after 5 it's too long.

Children don't need to be spanked at all. I don't think it teaches good habits, as they might see in the schoolground that hitting is acceptable in society. I mean if you are out with a friend and they do something wrong, you don't hit them to set them straight, you talk to them. Kids are the same. If you discipline using a time out technique and talking to them at their level with a firm voice, it'll be just as effective. And reward them for good behaviour. If you use techinques like that, you'll soon find no need for spanking. Good luck!
