Yes.

It hurts, but I'd rather my fanny stung for a few minutes than for them to pick up the phone and call my parents.

I was back in the day when paddling was the RIGHT thing to do. kids knew if we did wrong, this would happen. And back then, kids had sense enough to have respect and to know right from wrong.
In my school, the principal always did the paddling. And did it in front of the class. We didn't think this was abusive. We thought we better behave or this will happen to us. We did not FEAR, we RESPECTED.
Have you seen the tv show 'good times'? This is how my daddy was toward us. Firm yes, but a good dad and teach you HOW to be right.

Nowdays, the kids wouldn't even care if they got the paddling in school. They have no respect and don't care what would happen to them. I think part of that happens because they KNOW that they are not going to get in trouble for what they do anyway.

I do have to say that I thought it was stupid because we had to walk in the hall, in a straight line all around the whole building to get to our next class. And there were teachers in the middle of the hall with long rulers and would hit you if you got out of the line
I still think that is way overboard..

I did. It scared everybody. And it hurt like he.. when one of us guys got the rare paddling. A heavy set strong gym teacher did the paddling. It took one's breath away and stung for the rest of the day. It was no joke.

i am sorry to say that i am old enough to have gone to gone to school when there was paddling. i must say that it was a good deterrent because the teacher had the priviledge and so did the principal. i was scared sh*tless.

yes. and i survived undamaged. i harbor no resentment for the school or the teachers. if the teachers have the "nuclear option" the students tend to behave better. there were some morons who don't know wrong from right, and this helped them to discover what is right. and when Teacher talked, we listened.
