Why don't they use quotes from a real book of Catholic teaching like the Catechism of the Catholic Church or Baltimore Catechism instead of from a book supposedly called "The New York Catechism" (a book that I don't think ever even existed)?

Catholicism has more than the bible, we have sacred Tradition and the Magisterium of the Church (the bishops in union with the Pope). And if you believe that Jesus is God and that He founded the Catholic Church then it shouldn't be hard to believe that God would protect that truth from being watered down. If you notice, the Catholic Church is always getting criticized by the media for not compromising her teachings on issues of faith and morals even when we see many mainline Protestant denominations caving to political pressures and getting rid of age old bed rock Christian doctrines of faith and morality.

--is Catholic and a convert too--

I don't know. There are a few Protestant groups that will accurately quote from Catholic sources, but they are few and far between. I haven't decided whether or not it stems from an inability to look at history or if it is from spiritual blindness. There is also the huge problem that people who study Catholicism enough to quote it accurately usually end up converting to Catholicism or to Orthodoxy (or at least they drop being anti-Catholic), which completely depletes any sort of Protestant base that knows what Catholics really teach and why.

Anti-Catholic non-Christians can be better than Anti-Cath Prots because they will tend to use better philosophy and historical sources, and are not prone to use the works of Anti-Cath Prots because they recognize them to be the junk that they are.

Anti-Cath. Orthodox, though...that is completely different. Those are interesting because both Catholics and Orthodox use the same foundational works of the early Church. It is more of a sense of dealing with the sin of pride than anything else when you look at the root cause of the hatred and bigotry.

Though what gets my blood boiling is Anti-Cath. Catholics...

I don't know these books you speak of. That's why. If I were an athiest (which I am), why would I read a book with Catholic in the title?

The only book I hope to read is called 'Misquoting Jesus'. This is a book that was written by a methodist. Someone who believed that every word in the bible was the word of god. He then studied the bible, history and learned the original language the bible was in, only to know more about his faith and god.

Because of his research, he found more descrepensies than facts. He is now an athiest.

The bible was written and re-written over 1000's of times by 1000's of people over 100's of years. You have no idea what your reading. That's a quote of my own that I've used before.....don't need a book for that. That's fact.

Because, just like most people who are anti anything, many anti-catholics are not interested in seeking the truth about the Church, which they believe they already possess, but only in attacking what they perceive as evil (in this case, Catholicism). Sadly, many of the most belligerent anti-catholics are ex-catholics themselves, and often times they are like that because they had very negative experiences with priests and other representatives of the Church.

Question - Which is the Sabbath day?
Answer - Saturday is the Sabbath day.
Question - Why do we observe Sunday instead of Saturday?
Answer - We observe Sunday instead of Saturday because the Catholic Church, in the Council of Laodicea (A.D. 364), transferred the solemnity from Saturday to Sunday." The Convert's Catechism of Catholic Doctrine, p. 50, 3rd ed.

“Catholicism has more than the bible, we have sacred Tradition”

All we need is the scripture.

1) “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for TRAINING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, that the man of God may be COMPETENT, equipped for EVERY good work.”

2) Look at Jesus, When he was tempted he quoted Deuteronomy.

3)Jesus gave us new laws Love God and love your neighbor.

Deuteronomy 6:5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.

Leviticus 19:18 'Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD

4)On the Cross Jesus quoted Psalm 22

5)He said "anyone who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is not worthy of the kingdom of God" That’s from Kings it is from the story of Elijah

6)Paul, as was his custom, went in to them, and for three Sabbath days reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and demonstrating that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus, whom I proclaim to you, is the Christ." Acts 17:2

7)How did Paul tell of Christ? from the scriptures

“And if you believe that Jesus is God and that He founded the Catholic Church then it shouldn't be hard to believe that God would protect that truth from being watered down.”

1) Jesus did not create the Catholic Church
and
2) God chose Israel to be his chosen people but they often apostatized and wandered away from God until finally rejecting the truth (Jesus-“I am the way truth..”).

I don't know - it certainly isn't necessary.
I'm not anti-catholic, but some of the stuff they teach is really off the wall - definitely not from the Bible.

It's not just Catholics, it's pretty much any religion that people dont agree with. People are ignorant and they like to make people mad. I think you should just ignore them.
