I'm moving to Los Angeles June 2007. I'm wondering what is a nice area without any violence and gangs?

I'm moving to Los Angeles, California in June of 2007. I was wondering what is a nice place to live without such a high cost. I want to live in a nice friendly environment with nice people. Not any or much violence and no gangs whatsoever. I have already saw a place online that I think looks nice but I don't know is it nice around. The place is in the "South Park" area, is that a good area? Please write and let me know I would really appreciate it alot! I'm moving there because I hear it's nice wheather and a great place if you are in the Entertainment, Show Business field and which I want to be in. Thanks...Laters.

no such place in LA and in lesser crime areas it's very expensive

Burbank is a nice area just outside city limits that occasionally has "affordable" rentals available.

I put "affordable" in quotes because my place, which costs $875/month for a 1 bedroom front end of a duplex, is affordable only in relation to the rest of the LA area. A one bedroom will typically run you about $1000/month. For a breadbox studio (300 sq ft) in a decent neighborhood, expect to pay $750. It only gets more expensive from there.

Pasadena also has some affordable units in decent neighborhoods, and has the added benefit of the Metro Gold Line if you need access to transit. Glendale is nice and fairly affordable too.

The South Park area you ask about is in the southwestern portion of downtown, near the Staples Center. It traditionally has been considered a mediocre neighborhood, but like the rest of the downtown area it's gone through a major gentrification in recent years. The area's in a transition phase right now...think homeless people and high-priced apartments intermingling in the same neighborhood. Be warned, however, there is no free parking downtown. If you're going to have a car, you probably will have to add at least $300/month (and possibly much, much more) for a parking space which normally does NOT come with a downtown unit (FYI, most other areas of LA do include parking in the rent). That $800 rent they advertise for a South Park unit might not be so attractive when you factor in parking...

I've lived in the Los Angeles area for over 20 years and I've never heard of a place called "South Park" unless of course you're talking about Comedy Central.

The problem with your question is that you don't mention how much you can afford each month. A great deal of your ability to live in a "nice" area will depend on your pocket book.

If you can afford a couple of grand a month for a one bedroom apartment than you will have no problem. If you can only afford $600 a month than you will either need rommates or you will need to make a tradeoff between an area that is fun and safe to living in area that mainly speaks Spanish and has people growing corn in their front yard

There are plenty of safe areas to live in. The real question is whether you want to live in an area with an "American" culture or a Mexican culture.

The best advice I can give you is to rent an apartment that is close to your work for a couple of months. Drive around the city, go into coffee shops, ask locals what areas they think are nice. Figure out what areas have the right personality and then move to that location.

A great deal of your ability to live in a nice area will depend on your pocket book. My second suggestion is that you repost your question and tell us how much money you have to spend and what type of personality your neighborhood should have.

stay away from South Park, during your online search try areas like West LA, Culver City, in the Valley, try Studio City, Van Nuys, Sherman Oaks

I recommend to move north west of LA.The west Palmdale area is perfect if you want to live in a suburban area.Try Torrance,you can get a 1 bedroom or studio for 1K rent. Here are other cities I recommend CLOSER to LA: West Hollywood (some nice parts), some parts of Hawthorne, Sun Valley, and Burbank.You can get a studio out in Redondo Beach for about 1.6K if lucky.

Torrance is a nice area, it isn't officially Los Angeles, it's in the south, by Long Beach if you know where that is.. Nice little houses annd lots of shopping and hospitals, offices etc. I don''t know your price range, but a nice house you could get for like 800'000s?

San Fernando Valley from what I hear is the best place to move if you're not a city person. And if you are a city person, it's close to the city so you can torture yourself by going there whenever you want to. As long as you can stand 110 degree weather in the summer...

LA is a county, not a city, so you need to pick a good area. I lived in the San Fernando Valley in Chatsworth and it was a great place to live. I would check out the different cities in the valley if you want a really nice neighborhood.

Low cost ? California? I lived there. One place is a bedroom suburb called LaMirada, next to Norwalk. Decent. No gangs. Pasadena is decent, so is Burbank. Don't know "South Park".

Wrong place, everything there is big $$$$, you can live in nothing more than a cardboard box at the dump for $1,000/month. You cannot get away from the crime unless you move 100 miles away or more. Pollution is everywhere, as is filth and scum. Try Seattle, Colorado Springs, or St. Paul.
