It is quite possible that he may need them fitted again. Gromits are not usually fitted with stitches so can fall out at any time. Ask for a referral to the local audiology clinic to have a hearing test performed. Could well explain his behaviour.

hi i cant answer ur hearing q but can you let me know how you get on with this one as my nephew whos 4 is very mischieful and extremely naughty and boisterous, he cant hear very well and is on the list for grommits, adanoid and tonsil removal all the same time, as for the dyslexia i dont think your 6 yr old has that, my mother was told by my old headmistress to get my sister checked for dyslexia as she could not spell also kept getting her letters mixed up ie would play , i spy something beginning with m,,, tree im not making this up she was really bad could not read neither we moved to the country she went to a smaller school by end of second week could read and write, she is now a pharmacist, could just be that your little boy needs a little extra attention like my sis did, try getting him to write out your shopping list and stuff this will help him loads also have a word with his teacher and ask for her advice some teachers are quite helpful,,,( i did say some,, not all),, his hearing shouldnt hold him back i was born deaf and have been able to read since before i started school and writing and spelling has never been a problem though in infants i did have trouble with silent letters and ch i e i used to read mechanic pronuncing the ch as i saw it i grew out of that though

I've no idea about the Grommits but with the Dyslexia...

I also love to read and in primary school had the same problem as your son. My teachers did little about it and it plagued me well into adulthood, yet however much I tried to learn to spell a word i had difficulty. 'With' would be spelt 'Wifh', because i knew it had an 'H' in it. However in secondary school it finally settled down, though I sometimes still have difficulties. I have never been diagnosed with Dyslexia, though for many years wondered if I did have it, as I have never been tested.

However.

The best way to get tested is to ask at your child's school. If they fob you off with anything about your son being too young or them thinking he doesnt need it insist, YOU are the concerned parent who does NOT want their child to see repurcusions throughout your childs schooling just because nothing was done as early as it could have been. If they STILL refuse I'd go see your doctor, as he or she should hopefully be understanding.

My schoolife was not happy with worrying about my studies, which made me less self-confident, which left me a victim to bullies. Your son should be your most precious possession in the world, and as such you should fight tooth and nail to get the best life for him.

Remember he is still only 6 though. It could be he just hasnt quite got the hang of spelling yet, but better safe than sorry.

i had grommits when i was 5 and i am dyslexic. his school should be able to get him tested. the sooner it is done the better because he may need special coloured lenses to read and write. the white paper maybe to harsh on his eyes and makes every thing jump about. also get his hearing tested again. grommits mat not have worked. if u need anymore info and school not helping please get in touch, as my mum will be able to give more help to u.

Grommits only stay in place for approx 6 months.
Suggest you get back to you GP to see if glue ear has returned.
Maybe he has learnt that he can use not hearing you as an excuse for bad behaviour.
If the GP says his ears are OK then start disciplining him to stop his bad behaviour!

Because a child cant spell does not mean he is dyslexic and spelling how it sounds is what kids do at 6. If he were dyslexic he would see letters backwards. I don't know what Grommets is but I'm sure his pediatric doctor could help with the testing or refer you to someone.

had a friend who could not read until 9
she went on to get a Science degree in university
her daughter did not read well til later either

lots of children are made to spell phonetically now
and obviously with his hearing problem he will just take a bit longer to get there
children go in leaps and bounds
