its been taken from where it knew what was what and placed in your strange locale.
you're probably over fussing it as well.
Leave it be for a while and get onto the people you bought it from and find out what it eats. I've known cats turn their noses up at tuna and then nick the crisps out of my bag!

You should give the kitty it's own room for about 2 weeks. Put him in there with a cat litter box, food, water, and some toys. Make a bed out of something that smells like you. A pillow case that you have slept on, a t-shirt that you have worn.

Go in there a couple of times a day and just sit. Let the kitty come to you, don't force yourself on the kitty. Stay in there for about 15 to 20 minutes at a time at first, slowly increase the amount of time you spend in there.

After a couple of days the kitty will be excited to see you come in and you can start playing with him too.

After the 2 weeks is up, start letting him out into the house while you are there, but leave the room set up for him so he feels like he has a safe place to go that is his own.

After about another 2 weeks he should be very well adjusted to you and his new home, this will seem like a distant memory and you will be sharing lots of happy time with him!!!

The thing you have got to remember is that this is all new to him. He is scared and in a strange place. Give him time, his own space, love and patience and soon you will be friends!!!

I have a 2 cats and got them at different times and they both reacted in the same way. The older cat took about a week before she would come out from behind the sofa, the younger one who is now 6 mths would come out as soon as she was left alone but within 2 days was strutting her stuff around the hse. The best thing to do is obviously leave him alone for a while and don't leave him exposed or he will panick and become upset. leave him in a quiet room alone with a warm blanket and if poss put a clock underneath the blanket because it will remind him of his mothers heartbeat and be of comfort. gradually he will gain confidence and go exploring his new surroundings. Obviously make sure that he has everything he'll need close by e.g litter tray, food & water ( obv don't put litter tray too close to food and bed)

How old is this cat? Where did you get this cat? Is this cat a kitten? Was this cat originally an outdoors cat? You failed to include details, so I'm not sure how to answer your question. Talk to the former owners and ask if this cat acted this way with them. It could be scared and intimidated by it's new surroundings and owners. Are there small children in your house or other animals in your house? There are a variety of reasons why your cat is acting the way it is. If this behavior continues, you may want to take your cat to the vet.

Pets are wonderful creatures to keep us humans entertained and keep us company to those who love them so!

He is just scared. You will have to start removing his hiding places, otherwise he won't have a reason to come out become socialized. I had to barracade the bed and furntiure so my cats would become comfortable around me. As far as food and potty, make sure that he has a nice quiet place to get accustomed to. When he feels safe, he will venture out and do these things. My cats would only do these things at night when the rest of the house was quiet until they were comfortable in the new home.

He's probably fine. Most cats don't warm up to new people or new situations right away. If you just go on about your business, he'll eventually get the nerve to come out and eat, especially if you put the food somewhere quiet where there's not too much activity. And if he needs to potty badly enough, he'll seek out the litter box. And eventually he'll settle down and be social ! If it goes on TOO long, though, you should probably call the vet just to be safe.

Scared just leave him food - do not let him outside yet. When I had 2 kittens a few months ago (he and she) from the RSPCA only 8 weeks old - the he was not shy at all he was sniffing everything and coming up to me, she on the other hand was hiding behind the chair and only came out when he passed and was following him like a shadow. About a month later she was still shy with me didn't like me giving her cuddles if I approached her she would run away. But a few weeks later she started to come out of her shell and was coming up to me

He is just scared right now give him a couple of days he will adjust when i got my kitten a few months ago he was the same way, dont worry right now he will be fine, if in like 3 days there is no change in his eating or using the bathroom take him to the vet. Now just to warn you he might not adjust to you and your family for about a week, try bonding with him, I had to give my kitten a flea bath and when I was finished i wrapped him in a towel like a baby and warmed him up he loved it and ever since he's been attached to me like white on rice! just give it some time he'll come around, goodluck!

Cats need about 3 weeks to get use to a new home and we have found that one peaceful room (home ) is best for the first week then let the cat explore, BUT, always leave a clear route back to home.
Cats give the impression of being independent and fearless but ours does not even like chairs moved from one room to another!

Well hes probably scared since he's in new surroundings......try and bond with him....but try not to invade his/her space too much.....probably a little shy! But thats ok... im sure everyone is a little shy when there somewhere new.......When I got a cat he was scared and shy but I started bonding with him and showing him around the house and where the litter box is and playing with him and making sure he has enough of what he should need food, water, toys etc.atleast... and we bonded right away and what I
got in return is a really good friend... I know very cheesy....but true! Hope I helped!
