Diet soda contains aspartame, the artificial sweetener used by a number of brands including NutraSweet and Equal. Whether aspartame causes illness has been under debate for many years now. Many people claim suffering side affects from aspartame, but the FDA says these claims are baseless. Personally, I think if it affects you, it doesn't matter what the FDA says, stop ingesting aspartame.

Be wary when researching aspartame. It is difficult to separate fact from fiction with all of the extreme information posted to the internet. Be sure to check for reputable references and check sources.

My father had diabetes. My brother got Type 2 diabetes at age 40 and the main reason was too much fruit juice (yes, most so-called fruit juices have at least some sugar) and pop (diet or not--both are bad for you).

Drink water! Tea! Hell, beer or wine is better in moderation.

Wake up, folks, any kind of soft drink or pretty much anything with carbonation is probably the worst thing you can put into your body next to greasy fast food.

I'm not a professional but I do know it's bad for you to drink too much diet "soda" because of the levels of sweeteners in it. It also can cause severe laxative effects if drunk in large quantities, not to mention being a nightmare for your teeth. Tell her to stick to water, it's great for the skin and your hearing!
