I was talking to one of my friends whom i would like to eventually date and asked him on monday if he would like to hang out on friday but he said that he was going away friday but would probably be free on saturday. i told him to e-mail me if he wanted to hang out. He said "definitely." I'm afraid he might have forgotten that he said that he would e-mail but i don't want to ask again because that would make me look really desperate. i was thinking i might e-mail him and ask if he still wanted to hang out tonight since i was trying to plan out my evening and didn't want to make other plans if i was already going to hang out with him. does that sound like a good idea or should i just leave things alone. he's really shy and not very forward so i'm afraid he'll just assume that i'm busy and then stay home tonight so i want to let him know that i really want to hang out with him.

E-mail or call and ask him if you're still on for tonight. He might have forgotten or as you say, he's shy. If you don't get a straight answer to begin with, then go on and have fun with someone else.

Just email him and say something along the lines of "You said you might be free to hang out today, so are we still on for tonight?"
