Do Not Resucitate - usually when someone is put in the hospital, they can sign a DNR form which basically says that if their heart stops, you don't have to try and save them.

Do not resuscitate, but some have thought 'ctc' is better or 'compassionate terminal care'. This then avoids invasive means - like needles, intravenous, tubes to stomach or chest, or difficult, like electric shocks to the chest/heart, maybe even disrespectful treatment, so just to do what makes the person comfortable, without measures necessarily prolonging their life. This also means the family can be more present as usually in a resuscitation effort the medical team asks those present to leave, so they can do their work with tubes, needles, that usually has the person stripped of everything so vital areas are exposed.

do not resuscitate...
medically it is normally posted for very old or terminal patients that it would be actually cruel to force a continued hold on life for as well as those who have signed instructions on file not to resuscitate if they quit breathing or heart stops
