I am going to be 60 years old next month, I am a grandma. I "drove" a motorcycle in the 60's, my husband & I threw a big wake for Jimi Hendrix when he died. I have done it all except I have always wanted a real tattoo ! My husband thinks I'm nuts. I am a diabetic & he's afraid it won't heal properly.

I want a butterfly on my right breast with a symbol of the old car that my husband had when I met him on a blind date when I was 16 & he was 19. We will be married 41 years on Aug. 7th & yes "OLD" people STILL ROCK !!
No pills either if your wondering !
We are very active & eat well, take vitamins & we have a deal where we sit & "talk" every morning for at least 20-30 minutes before we start our day.

I really wish you could get one, cuz I still consider you young at heart. More power too you. Think about your health and do what's logical. If you have any doubts, DON'T DO IT.

I'm 27 and I've been married for a little over a month, I hope me and my wife have the same attitude 30-35 years from now that you have...

Tattoos are bad! You cant give blood and they dont look good. Young people get cute little butterflys but by the time they get old they look like nasty dragons. (60 is not old) Also it hurts your immune system which is bad news if your diabetic

Talk with your doctor and with a reputable tattoo artist. If you still want to, go for it! I figure at 60 you should have a pretty good idea what you want, better than us youngsters. I hope I have the same zest for life you do when I reach your age!

If your diabetes is under control, then go ahead and get the tattoo. You might ask your doctor what you can do to encourage the healing to go faster. So, what will the tattoo be and where?

Since you're diabetic you need to talk to your doctor before you get a tattoo. He/she may have suggestions on what to do to help it heal, assuming it's safe for you to get one.

I personally don't see anything wrong with getting a tattoo later in life. Do what you want (so long as the doc says it's safe). :)

So, talk to your doctor first, then if he gives you the thumbs up.... DO IT!!!! At this stage of the game, who gives a darn what your husband (or anyone else) says! Good Luck! Get something really cool!

The best you can do is go to a reputable tattoo shop and ask them about it. They are very helpful and knowledgable, so go for it. They'll let you knokw if its a bad idea or not.

you're my effing hero.

as for the issue of healing i found this information regarding it:
Diabetics cannot receive a tattoo below the knee due to issues with healing.

so i say.....do it do it do it!(but probably best to check with your doctor just to be on the safe side =])
