It really depends on the people who are in charge of evaluating your situation. For example, you mention bad credit. Fortunately, bad credit isn't the only factor in deciding to extend a rental agreement to someone. They also look at factors such as income, and rental history as well. With adequate income and a good rental history, you should not have any issues obtaining a new apartment. Of course, if the rentals you are looking at hold credit scores highly, you can always get a roomate with excellent credit history to balance out the factors. But if you insist on living on your own and you get denied, just go check a different apartment complex or better yet, print out a free credit report at http://www.annualcreditreport.com and take it with you to explain your situation before applying. Many landlords are understanding.

Ask your current landlord to report your rental history to the credit reporting agencies. If they will, it shows a positive payment history.
