What is your point? Why does he look like a white man when he came from Nazareth? It is just somebody's rendition.

Is it proof that idolatry is a bad thing? No. It is proof that people perceive and represent things in certain ways.

A "picture" of Jesus is not idolatry, since Jesus did walk the earth as a man. Wanting to know what he looked like seems to be an innocent thing.

Probably because hippies thought of Jesus as part of their concept of Love, consciously or subconsciously emulating him. Therefore the men we know (or knew) today who resemble Jesus are hippies, in part because they are known to walk their own path, be rebels, and they agree with the principles of peace and love, the realization of which of course may have been muddied or distorted during the 60's.

All of this may be a simple reflection of the fact that many hippies came from Christian families. Does that speak poorly of the hippies, for distorting the tradition or does it speak poorly of the tradition for creating the hippies?

The truth is that there's a lot of imperfection in the world, and there's some of it in most every sector, whether idolatrous or not. To me that is a sign we should take fault with imperfection, which often consists of sin, yet not always entails a break with tradition. In other words, there are traditionalists that sin just the same, they are just not outwardly being rebels by doing it. Jesus was a rebel in the sense that he was a Jew who founded a new religion.

Idolatry is bad because it takes away from your own personal power. I think Jesus was a cool hippie.....just hanging out in the desert.

All hippies weren't drugged out weirdos, it was basically ,for alot of people, a way of dressing and speaking to be different and irritate their parents.
As for the portraits of Jesus, they were simply the way the artist "saw" Jesus in his mind's eye. Maybe people wore their hair that way, maybe whom ever commissioned portraits of Jesus told the artist what look to give Him. No one will know what Jesus looks like until they die. I hope this helps alleviate some of you're questions.

Because Michelangelo was commissioned to paint the portrait of the so called Jesus that we see in everyone's church today. Now in the Bible there is a very big contradiction because, well you know what is says. His cousin was the person used to portray the Jesus that we see on all the pictures. Can you dig this?

I believe that is what people looked like when Jesus was on earth. The hippies may have tried to imitate that look - but that's just a guess.

The portrait of Jesus that we have accepted to be true is actually false. In reality Jesus would have been looking like what the ancient Jews looked like. The hair would have been curly but not as long as it is seen in pictures. In the Bible Paul mentioned that long hair was not to be accepted.

i think its because .... since it was the beginnig o ftime ... men did not had razors and thats how they paint him with lots hair.... because vanity was not of a big deal.. and besides.. i think hippies are the greatest..haha... i think thats why they got that type of look since their motto is always about peace and love and what Jesus Christ did was all about LOve.. so i guess that is why and is not that they made Jesus look like a hippie... it was the other way around.. HIppies wanting to look like Jesus..!! aw.. never thought about that huh? !
