I work at a gas station & get the best results from strangers with a smile & kind word. Some people have told me it throws them that I ask how their day is going, because i seem to care about thier answers.. but when I go somewhere & get no recognition of even being a person, just a wallet.. it seems rude. What do you think??

Thank you for perpetrating Random Acts of Kindness

Of course, its a good idea to treat people with gentleness, kindness andd friendliness... It's a sign of your strength, as well as improving the flow of life for the recipient...
It's sad that so many people are surprised and sceptical of simple humanity... and surprise them it does... but it sinks in and they go on to add some of their own niceness to the world.

Don't be hurt by others rudeness... the tree always supports the bird.
You may not have their recognition for being nice but you have mine... THANX

How nice of you to be so kind to people! I was in a place the other day trying to pay, and the lady kinda smirked at me, yelled into the phone at her son, took my money, yelled into the phone again, then handed me the change. Not a word to me....nothing. I stood there a second thinking she should - at least - say thank you, but there was nothing.....just more yelling at her son. How rude....I'm so glad there are people out there like you who make it a little happier. You're doing the right thing.

I don't see how it's a bad thing. When I worked at Wendy's, I worked at the drive-thru with the money and I was always cheery and nice to the customers and nothing bad ever happened (except one guy who excessively yelled at me about his food that I didn't cook...) from it. I'd say just keep it up, it would seem rude anyways to not be friendly to customers in my opinion.

I agree with you. I have worked in customer service, and know that courtesy, respect, and friendliness is what brings people back. Its like the old saying goes, "You never get a second chance to make a good first impression."

Keep up the good work. Good customer service is so hard to find. Nothing but stoner kids that don't care if they have a job the next day, running the registers now days.

Good for you! Keep smiling and making people's day, because they might had a bad day and needed some respect and recognition. Karma...do good things for people and you will be rewarded.

I believe that the customer-employee relationship requires respect from both sides, and unfortunately in many situations this isn't the case.
I surely appreciate it when I find someone nice and who cares.
You are a good person, really. I wish you all the best, you deserve it.

Its a fabulous habit...you never know who's day youre making with caring and a smile, if you were to stop you'd be just like those lame people you encounter

It's always good to be friendly, no matter how the people treat you. Not only does it reflect very positively on you, but you never know if these people will show up in your life again. You'd be surprised.

i used to work in retail (i quit to go back to school) but it is frustrating when you are nice to people whether it's because you actually care about their answers or because it's part of your job, then you go say to get a new outfit or something....and it's like you don't exsist. because you treat people with respect you expect to be treated like that in return....it starts to make you think "why am i even nice anyway???" then again...if you aren't nice to every single person that you see then they will complain that you're being rude to them....it's a vicious cycle....
