All you have to do is say and it is so. You don't even have to denounce christianity, just start living like a buddhist. Do the rituals, celebrate the holidays - do what buddhists do. That's all.
You know in Judaism all you have to do to get married, really, is to say I marry you 3 times - same with divorce. Try that. Say it 3 times:
I am a Buddhist
I am a BUDDHIST
I AM a Buddhist!
It only matters that you know it and that you believe. You don't have to make a stand with your folks even - you can celebrate with them to honor them and their beliefs and then do what you want to do for your own beliefs with like minded others or on your own.
Peace! It is done!

Well just go to a temple, most of the time they have schedules on their web site and usually have free (you can always leave a donation) “classes” introducing you to the practice and meditation and such. I started as a small priory. I think it’s helped me a lot with patents and letting things go. Anyways I just wanted to comment on something, you said “higher being” and I’m sure you can find a place to practice where that is taught but most the time Buddha is thought to be yourself. It’s in everything. So it’s not putting faith in some higher being or entity outside yourself but rather the faith is in yourself and you are holly in a primary way. It’s really beautiful.

It is with much grief that I must tell you...your wish to leave the Lord is proof that you never really knew Him in the first place.
The Bible is not a science text or some kind of tech manual. There is no conflict between God and science, only between arrogant theologians and know it all scientists. God created science.
Having said that, I do understand your position, if you grew up a Catholic. I always did think the Book of Tobit would make a great Disney movie.

There is another Faith that states quite clearly there is harmony between science and religion as two complementary systems of knowledge that must work together to advance the well-being and progress of humanity. And they believe in a Higher Being.
While this doesn't answer your question, I though you might like to know.

I don't know what you were taught, there is no conflict with science and Catholicism, but I would suggest that you learn about real Catholicism and it's many great men of science. I myself am a chemist. Paricularly when I studied Quantum Mechanics in college, I was even more in awe of the greatness of God through His creation. But hey, if you think believing in a never ending cycle of rebirth, according to the laws of karma and vipaka is logical, then knock yourself out. Check your yellow pages and find a Buddhist Temple and start from there.

Well no wonder you're easily swayed. Catholicism is a cult... a false, man-made religion originating from the pagan Roman empire!
I don't understand, however, if you're so well educated, why you haven't done your own research on this subject? You've got the tools and you've got the knowledge on how to do investigative research... why?
Seems to me that you would "want" to know both sides of the argument so as to intelligently be able to make such a life changing, (or threatening), decision?!

Buddhism, can even enhance your own faith, while it is not a religion at all,it is a great learning experience, there are actually more to Buddhism, than you may think,a good place to start is by reading his holiness,es books, there are several in circulation, they will give you even yet a bigger, deeper understanding of Buddhism, you may also want to know that even the Dahlia lama believes that he was created.

1. Cathllics arn't christians there are 100 statements of heresy that say so in their doctrine.
2. If you are changing to buddhism you were never a chrisitan.
3. If you wish to be a buddhist I would start finding places like buddhist chat and look in the phone book for a local assemby of buddhists. Do some homework yourself that is the best way is to study and to know for sure.

Yes, you certainly can become a Buddhist. However, there isn't any formal 'converting' to do. Buddhism doesn't really require such commitments. Seek peace and enlightenment rather than wealth and aggression and you will already be well on your way.
If you desire more formal instruction seek out your local temple, but Buddhism is much more about meditation and contemplation than it is about prayer, dogma or formal religious rites.

Yes, it is best to follow the "way of truth", which as you have discovered is Buddhism. There is no initiation, no hierarchy, no one to judge you or approve your membership. If you consider yourself to be a Buddhist, then you are one, regardless of what else you may be.
You can be a member of a Buddhist temple/sangha, but you don't have to be. Some sanghas also have a ceremony in which you dedicate yourself to the principles of the Buddhist path, but that is not required or even common.
