are you that insecure in your beliefs that you have to criticize the faith of others? these questions of yours just prove that you are not satisfied with your theories of whatever you athiests believe in. you should be extremely scared about what happens to you when you die. eternity is a very long time.

Us believers in Christ don't believe God wiil protect us from ever getting hurt. (Well, except for a few money hungry tv evangelists, but that's another story) We just believe that he is always with us and will protect us from Satan doing anything to us that isn't in accordance with God's will.
A good example is in scripture in the book of Job. Job was a firm follower of God, yet God sovereignly allowed Satan to give Job many troubles. Job was still in a sense "protected" by God...I mean God could've stopped Satan at any time, but chose not to for a long time. In the end, God eventually put an end to Job's troubles and rewarded Job.
There are many times God miraculously protects us from harm, but while we are still on earth, we will be allowed to experience pain. Some of our pain we create ourselves when we choose to disobey God and sin. It's weird, God gives us a lot of free will, but obviously not all free will. He's still ultimately in control. I probably won't fully understand the concept until I get to heaven.
As far as hospitals go, I do believe God is the great physician, but he does often use doctors and others to bring about healing. I think he does this to teach us how to love and care for others. He is still in the business of doing miracles, but most of the time He doesn't. I think maybe that's because if He always miraculously intervened and delivered us from our problems, we would only come to him for that-ya know like He'd be our magic genie or Santa Claus. He wants to be our friend and not just be used.
I am very curious where the expression God helps those who help themselves comes from. I have never read it in scripture. Can someone tell me the verse?

Theists don't believe that - christians do.
And believe it or not, some christians actually do just that: they refuse doctors and medical care, and just pray. There have been a number of deaths that have resulted from this.
I say, leave them to it. Best they remove themselves from the gene pool.

They are hypocrites. Every time a Christian goes to the hospital or doctors office, they're turning their backs on "God". The faith they constantly talk about goes down the toilet when reality shows up at their doorstep.

You should ask questions in another section, please.
Your questions are illy thought-out and rather honestly irrational.
If you don't believe in GOD why do you care what Christians believe?
