Hey, well it seems that you already have many answers to your question, but I would like to add my own perspective if that is alright with you. I was homeschooled from the day that my mother and father brought me home from the hospital, until I graduated from the 12th grade. I have a younger brother and an older sister who were also homeschooled. When I was in school, people would always ask me if I missed going to a public school, but I guess I never did. Even now, people who find out that I was homeschooled ask if I wish I could have went to school. The answer is no. I am 28 years old now, I have been finished with my schooling for 10 years. When I graduated, I took the college entrance exam at our local college, and was awarded a full scholarship for my grade. I attended the college for 2 years, then decided that I was tired of school, and would like to do something different. I worked for a couple of years, then came 09/11/2001, and my whole world changed. I have always been taught that America is the greatest nation in the world, and I love my country. So in October of 2001, I joined the Marine Corps. I scored a 99 on the ASVAB test, which is the highest numerical score that is possible, but I still elected to go into the infantry. I was offered a spot as an electronics technician for F-18's, but that was not what I wanted to do. When I enlisted, I was told that I needed a GED to join the military, even though I had 2 years of college, and a perfect ASVAB score. The fact that I was homeschooled was also noted in my permanent service record. They say that we homeschoolers are a new breed, and they want to keep tabs on how we do in the military. I did well though, I was put in a leadership position soon after my MOS school, and would eventually make it to the rank of seargent. I did 2 combat tours to Iraq as an infantry machine gunner in the US Marine Corps, and I never had a problem with "socializing" . I was good as a leader, and as a follower. At the end of my second tour of Iraq, I received a penetrating brain injury to the right side of my brain. The schrapnel went almost half way through my brain, damaging the right frontal and temporal lobes. I was sent to Germany where I underwent brain surgery at Landstuhl. When I got back to the US, the military did a series of tests to determine the extent of the damage, and found that I had lost about 30% of the use of the damaged portions of my brain. During those tests, a federally certified neurospcychologist, determined that even with brain damage, my vocabulary is better than 98.5% of my peer group. I am medically retired from the Marine Corps now, because of the problems from my injuries, and am married with a child. My life is not so different from a public schooled child now is it? Except that I actually have an education. In Mississippi, our school system is ranked the lowest in the nation, so quite literally, with my attention span as a child, I would be lucky to have been able to read. That is my story. Thanks for reading it.

I wasn't homeschooled, but I have hs my 2 children after terrible experiences with public school.
In homeschool, the child can actually take the time to 'learn' what they need. In public schools, they just pass them on thru without the child learning anything, and the teachers and others don't even care if the child learn anything or not.
As for social skills and lack of, all I have EVER seen with public school is BAD social skills. The child is left to the mercy of the bullies at public school, and NO ONE will stop the bullying.
At least in homeschool, the parent can step in and disclipline when needed, and 'teach' the children to play in the correct way.
Teachers in public school will NOT do this.
My youngest child has learned more in 3 months of homeschool than ever learned in 3 years of public school. And that is the truth!!

I was homeschooled until 9th grade. I loved it and am glad I did it. The only disadvatage is that I really didn't have very many friends until highschool, but I think I'll live. I would not recommend it for highschool though, because it is better to have more specialized teachers.

My mother started homeschooling me in the 9th grade as a punishment for how badly I acted out in 8th grade and in the first part of 9th grade. It made me inferior because I didn't learn how to adapt to social situations as well as getting along well with others. Now when the girls at work start a cat fight I am the first one to run and hide! BTW, what is it with the females always cat fighting. I can't understand why they do this.??????????

I was home schooled from the 8th grade up. I loved it. I got a better education at home than at school. The schools here are horrible. There were so many students, and not enough teachers. My mom could give me one-on-one attention, so I learned a lot more. And if I didn't understand something, we could stay on that subject for as long as it took for me to grasp the concepts.
All in all, between public school and home school, I'd take home school any day. In fact, I home school my own children.
