Should we change "does the pope wear a funny hat" to "was the pope a nazi" when stating the obvious?

Yes the Holy Father was in the Hitler Youth. He joined his brother in the Hitler Youth as it was compulsory for boys of his age and at that time. We are in no position to say that Pope Benedict XVI was a Nazi because he was conscripted to work on an anti-aircraft battery 1944 - 1945. He was German. He was protecting his country as I think we all would from continuous allied bombardment of his city and country.

No, the Pope tried to do as little as possible in the organization he was forced to join.

Do you think that every draftee in the Nazi German Army was a Nazi? If you do then you are very naive.

Just hope and pray that we do not have to make a decision to live and fight for a government we do not believe in or be executed.

I know of some US soldiers that joined up eagerly to fight in Afghanistan after the World Trade Center attack. But now they have to fight in Iraq, a war that they do not think is just.

You and I live in a very different world that the Pope did in 1940s Germany. I suggest you do not be so quick to judge others.

With love in Christ.

Well if he was, it wasn't a conscious choice. All children born in German during that time were automatically enrolled in it. Calling the Pope a Nazi because of this is the same as picking on you for the kind of daycare you mother enrolled you in when you were three.

He wasn't just in it, he still spews that nonsense. In 2005, Ratfink told revisionist crap about Nazism being based in paganism and denied its origins in Martin Luther's dogma. He also lied this year and claimed Pius XII was against the Nazis, when in fact Pius collaborated with the Nazis and instructed catholics to turn in jews to the Nazis.

And let's not forget, pope Ratfink also *wrote* the policy enacted by the last pedopope, the policy of "You can molest one child, but not two!" for their priests.

Yes, he didn't lick his right-wing social policies off the stones.

He still has not condemned anything the Nazis did...kind of strange isn't it, if he was forced into it.
