When people feel insecure about themselves, or are afraid of someone, often they look to name calling or other means to attack the character of another. The behavior that you mention - which I have noticed and am disgusted by - is simply the result of someone - atheist or Christian - who deep down inside has not tackled the tough questions.
Yes they may be able to quote scripture or refer to scientific studies, but unless someone has spent some serious one-on-one time with their own soul reflecting on their place in this world - with or without God - they will not have the moral compass within themselves to know that attacking another human being with words is just as wrong as attacking them with weapons. You do not have to have a belief in God or a non-belief in God to understand that.
Therefore, when people spend their lives regurgitating what other people say and believe, but don't really spend time thinking about it and asking the tough questions of themselves, then unfortunately some will turn to name-calling and degrading speech to belittle others in their attempt to feel better about the fact that they really don't know what they are talking about or believe in.
A respectful human being that is an atheist would act in such a way as not to degrade or prevent those who believe in God to worship and practice their faith in peace.
A respectful human being that is a Christian or any other religion would recognize that the foundation of their faith is the love of others. Unless you have some sick and twisted definition of love, that means you don't hurt other people but you accept them as is without the need to change them.
What a day it would be if people actually practiced the true essence of their beliefs.

Yes, this is a very common thing. I am an atheist and have gone to a 'debate' between an atheist and a theist about whether God exists. Truthfully, the theist won the debate. The atheist was philosophically naive, uninformed and rather dismissive of relevant arguments. The theist was realtively well-informed and met the challenges of the atheist head-on. That doesn't mean that I agreed with the theist, just that he was the one that won the debate.
I also find this in politics. I am personally a liberal, but have been disappointed in how many liberals are ignorant about science, history, and human nature. *shrug* I guess that's just how people are.

A Christian speaks to the atheist in the same manner they would a murderer, thief or even another Christian who has sinned without repentance or change; Christians really do believe those people mentioned will be condemned to Hell. Also, the atheist needs to find another category instead of religion and also the psychology questions should not be asked in religion either. The Atheist is frightened by their own behavior by going to ask a Christian's opinion.

I have news for you, agnostic. You may think you're riding the fence, waiting until it all pans out before you choose, but if you even question god's manifest existence the christian coalition will see you burn in hell, and if you even entertain the thought that a god could possibly exist, you expose yourself to the atheists as just another weakmended believer, only one who's too much the coward to commit.
You're not neutral, you're the opponent of both sides.

you should know that REPENTENCE is something you should do BEFORE you die!!...wether you're an atheist or a "christian" you can't just go and live a sinful life because you want to and think "I'll ask for forgiveness later" and voila, you're forgiven. Atheists know about God, but choose not to believe in Him, so their sinning and until they decide to turn to God and repent and to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, they are on satan's side.
Yeah people do make a fool out of themselves but that's not my problem..

Thanks for your question. I hope many in both camps take the time to read it and recognize themselves in the mirror. I hold my reservations though. Personally, I think it is ridiculous. This divide is what is preventing the world from achieving peace. Why can people not see this?
I also find myself getting suckered into the debate. I try to remain neutral, but certain questions just show the ingnorance of the asker, and need some response!

Ive never seen an athiest bash a christian. And I dont really see how the generalization that athiests have bad grammar is close to true. The only battle is between christians and satanists, but lets face it, satanists definentally have better grammer than christians, haha, and no im not a satanist

Yes I have noticed, that is why they say two things that should not be discussed is religion or politics, or did they just mean not to discuss them, when your drinking or drunk.
Without discussing religion and politics, there is not a lot left for some people to discuss except sex and heaven knows that subject has been beaten to death.
I think religion is a private matter, and should be left discussed in church.

I'm a Christian, and I believe God forgives us whan we repent of our sins and keeps us from going to hell when we repent, bbut the Atheists don't repent, so they refuse to be forgiven.
