It's called orthostatic hypotension. It's a problem caused by standing up too fast that there is not an adequate supply of blood to your brain for a brief period of time. This is not dangerous other than you could pass out if your blood pressure is too low.

this is often caused when you have been sitting 4 a while, correct? And you also feel light headed? If so it is all the blood rushing from your head, and starting to circulate in your body. Try stretching after sitting 4 extended periods.

If you're feeling giddy at the same time, try drinking more water. If that doesn't work, you may have trouble with your blood pressure (either too high or too low). Get it checked out if it's worrying you.
