My dog is a german shepard-rottie mix and is currently ten years old. She doesn't listen to any commands and doesn't know how to walk nicely without pulling my arm out of its socket. Please help me.

The best time for training is always when they are a puppy. *However* a dog can learn things it's entire life. I like to teach all of my dogs new things every once in a while. It gives them something new to do, and keeps them thinking. I taught a 12-year-old dog to hold food on her nose and catch it when I say "Okay". It does take more practice and patience with older dogs, but it can always be done.

The problem you may have is that you never taught your dog *to* learn. You will have to start from scratch. Check out some training books and/or sites and get some ideas. Be kind and patient, and remember to keep your sense of humor handy at all times!

Best of luck to you!

Where were you when the dog was younger and more receptible to learning? It's easiest to train them in the early years. It might be tough now, I'd advise a help of a trainer, at least for the evaluation. Big dogs are also pretty dominant and if she was allowed to be the leader for so many years, it might be authority-related issues too. But good luck, hope it's possible.

Get a halti head collar for walking. Yes you cam teach an old dog new tricks if you are a good trainer, I got my mutt at 6 years old and I taught her lots of stuff. Try finding out what she likes the most, treats a toy etc and use it against her to make her do what you want keeping in mind dont give it to her unless and untill she does what you ask.

Halti websites for info.....Trust me she will walk like a dream with one of these on, just make sure to get her used to it first so she doesnt struggle to get it off.

Shepards after one year old can't learn new triks. It is hard for them. If your dog - 10 years old it is impossible. You can go to dof teacher...But it wont help...I know this, because I had german shepard...

My dog is 11 in human years and she just learned how to do a flip.It depends on how much attention you give them and how many treats you give them to lol!!! My dog is a Rottweiler it took a while. I hope you can teach your dog what you want him to do.
