He's a liar. Or someone has hijacked his email address for the purposes of being mean and escaping responsibility.
You could try smoking him out by sending him disinformational emails, such as that you are gong on a trip with a girlfriend and there will be cute guys there. If he says anything about it, you know he's the one who sent the original nasty emails. You need to circulate a phony story and then let him respond to it without you asking him about it first. This how you find a sneak or a thief. If he's the genuine emailer, he'll betray himself sooner or later.

It's possible the 'friend' wrote them. All that 'friend' would need is a couple of minutes alone with a computer. It's possible to sneak on someones account and send off letters. So....give your ex the benefit of the doubt.

I think he's been watching "Days of Our Lives." Was he your ex before or after the e-mails and who broke up with who. If you like him and think you can have good times together, forget the e-mails. I don't know if you feel betrayed or not. Do what your heart tells you to do.

make a new address and only give it to him or let him make a new one just for you so it would be private between you two.. and if it still continues then your bf needs to deal with his friend..and who gave his friend the right to do so anyway? how would he get your address?

Do you think he wrote them? Ask yourself what you really think. Don't believe him just because you want to believe him. If you really believe it was the friend, perhaps, he should end that friendship. Maybe you can ask the friend.

Dont accept anymore emails from him...
Change your email addy...
So that, if he wants to talk to you..he does it by phone, or snail mail.
(This way, verification is a definite thing).
I wish you well..
Jesse

If you still like him and want to be with him again, make him prove that he still likes you (not in a perverted fashion). Remember to make sure that you still want to be with him. I hope it works out.
