I spent 2 years in Japan in the miltary. This was the main debate for many occasions. Somebody said Motorex does it. I know they used to ship cars over here. To ship a Skyline to the states, it has to be crash tested here. But who wants to crash test such a wonderful car? Well, Motorex did... But they only did the R33 GTR model. So they were shipping back all models of R32s, R33s, and R34s (skylines come in many different models i.e. GTS, GTS4, GTS25T...) and got in trouble for it.
I know that there are certain things that need to be changed. The windows that the Japanese put in there cars are different, so that has to be changed. There's also Emission rules and what not as well.
And to whoever said that they stopped making them is an idiot. There's been several different concepts for the R35 version hitting the Japanese magazine stands. The also unveiled what will probably be the new R35 model at the Tokyo Auto Sallon earlier this year.
My suggestion, is that if you have enough money to legally import a skyline, you're wasting your money. Get a new Infinit G35 coupe. It's pretty much the same car. It's got some get up as well. (298hp 3.5l V6)
Hope i helped!!
UPDATED!!!!
I heard somewhere if the car is older than 15 years, it can be shipped to Canada a lot cheaper. There are other acceptions to the "Classic Rule" (which i think is 25 years old) Skyline weres made back in the 70's maybe even the 60's...not sure on that...
If you go down this road, your best bet is to move to Canada and get an R32. Or look into getting a GTR from the 70's. I've seen them, and I guarantee you'd be one the few that has one in the US.

I would say so, my cousin just went to Flordia for a while and saw one at his hotel. It was an R32 and it was tagged and as far as i know legal to drive. The main issue is power output because there are different limitations for vehicles from USA vs Japan and probably emission requirements too. The main thing would be how much modification, if any, would it take to make it legal. I would say (my best guess) that they are legal stock except maybe not the R34 because it is an animal. If you think about it people drive ferraris road legal and their basically race cars, slightly downtuned I don't see why they would be illegal just really expensive...

They are but you have to pay 50 grand to get them legalized.
The usdm 350Z is the fairlady z in Japan, and the usdm G35 Coupe and Sedan are the current skylines. New 07 skyline in Japan is coming.
Expect a 400hp 2008 Skyline Coupe to hit US Nissan Dealers soon.

Yes they are, a company called motorex was the first to import and legalize them. You can still buy u.s. legal models from them. They are all right hand drive though, which might take some getting used to.
