i am trying to find out who owns a vehicle but all i have is the license plate number is there a way i can get that information for free?

if you know what state the license plate was issued in, you could attempt to contact the Department of Motor Vehicles (or whatever department issues license plates in the state - some states have different names for it).

You cant. That information is only available to law enforcement , Department of Motor Vehicles, and 911 dispatchers. and it is illegal for any of those agencies to obtain this information for you. They can be punished criminally for doing so. That information is protected by the Federal Privacy Law

..it's so werid that you asked this, right as I was looking up what you just asked.
You can look it up, but it costs $20.
But I know you can, because I've used it before.
It takes a few days to get the information though.
Just Yahoo or Google it.
