we're going to San Francisco for the week, and i'm going to propose, but cant decide how its going to go down....

Take the Wine Train thru the Napa Valley and ask her somewhere along the route. I would strongly suggest you ask prior to having too many glasses of wine so that she will know that you are serious.

Since it appears as if you do not reside in SF, maybe you can make a schedule of places to go to, and at each place have one of the workers give her something sweet... like a poem, a flower, a balloon, or whatever, and when you get to the last place, make it be a secluded place, like a beach in the later evening when the sun is going down. Have a table set up there with dinner waiting and ask her then!

That or you can do it at the zoo- go to the gift shop before she does, have the cashier put the ring in a bag, take her in the store and have her buy something, have the cashier put it in that bag with the ring, when you ask to see what she bought, she will reach in the bag, see what she bought, the ring you got (put a tage on it with her name) and before she can say anything (after she opens it) ask her to marry you!

Personally I would do it among friends and family...

Do it in your home town, where everything is familiar to her, like a bulletin board asking her to do that...

Or, some other thing, like sky writing..(do they do that anymore? :)

Go to a baseball game and have the score board guy put it on the board, with the message... (Real crowd pleaser and you may even get your name in lights and an applause from national tv!). But you have to make the arrangements at least two weeks in advance, so they can synchronize it...

i think the answer with the writing in roses is too sweet and romantic. before that maybe a really romantic dinner with a little champayne and some dancing and maybe a nice walk maybe along the river or the ocean or even a really nice park with some trees and some benches to sit a minute, sounds really romantic to me .....

Be original and romantic, try the usual flowers and a ring, make sure you get on one knee and do it in public, that way she knows you are not ashamed of how you feel about her.
