Make sure you are feeding your dog high quality food, this reduces the amount of shedding. Also brush your dog daily. Depending on the length of hair, you can try a shedding block (sold in the horse section brand name Slick and Easy), a grooming mitt, or even the Shed Ender that you have probably seen on infomercials, it really works!
Now that said, there are many breeds of dogs that just shed like crazy. Like labs and shepards. If your dog is one of these, you will have to deal with it, but if you do the things I mentioned it may reduce it a bit.
If you clip (or 'shave') the dog, it will still shed but will just shed shorter hairs. Which you wont notice as much, until it grows longer!
I have a cat and there is cat hair everywhere, and he gets great food, but doesn't enjoy brushing!

Put your dog outside!! Shedding is a very necessary part of a dog's life, just like molting is for birds. If you don't like a dog to shed in the house, make him an outside dog. I'm down here in Texas, and today it is 103 degrees where I live, and all of my dogs, one of which has a thick coat of fur, stay outside. They find ways to keep cool, relatively speaking, and we make absolutely sure we ALWAYS GIVE THEM PLENTY OF FRESH WATER, changing their water oftentimes twice daily. And they have BIG BOWLS of water. And the more they shed now, in the summer, the better their coat will be in the winter, and where I live in Texas, it gets COLD too, so they need a healthy coat in the winter. So make your dog an outside dog, with plenty of fresh water, or give it to someone who wants him / her. God Bless you, and your dog.
