Someone just told me that if my puupies are born on the 59th day and not after the 60th day that I am unable to register them with AKC. Is this true? Anyone know?

She has not had the puppies yet. She was just having some contractions yesterday and a neighbor said that if they were born I would not be able to register them. Today is the 60th day and she is still having some contractions (not hard and heavy yet) but she has also started licking herself and her milk came in and is leaking now....so I figure maybe before the night is out I might be a grandma. Thanks you guys for all your input.

No, that is incorrect. As long as the parents are both AKC registered with proper paperwork, the litter can also be registered.

Nope, that's not right. I can't even think of a reason they would give for doing that. They have restrictions on the age of the breeding dogs, but not on gestation length. Not that I've ever had puppies born before 60 days, though. My female usually goes on day 63-65 from first breeding.

Did the female already have puppies, or are you just concerned that this might happen? Just curiosity...

Best of luck to you!

Edit: Ah... Okay. You'll be just fine. They'll register your litter. It does sound like she's about ready to go, too. My female is on day 65 right now, and still being stubbornly quiet. She's progressing, but very slowly. It's just like trying to watch a kettle boil... Again, all the best! ;)

I don't think so. Go to www.akc.org and look it up.
