Think of someone who never smiles but can say something to make you laugh. It's not a practical joker or physical comedy. The show Frasier on TV used a lot of dry humor which mostly involves word play humor. Sarcasm, mocking something, witty banter, wry remarks, irony...are all forms of dry humor

Someone with a dry sense of humour somehow manages to amuse people with actually being amusing , or they will say something really funny without appearing to find it funny themselves . It probably means you have a clever mind and a quick tongue making you witty company .

Its more than sarcasm or subtle wit, it involves speaking in an unaffected, matter of fact way without apparently being aware of any humour in what you say.

a person with a dry sense of humor can't be silly, and some sarcasm is funny, so they wouldn't be sarcastic. a person with a dry sense of humor does not understand humor from the not so funny joke or act, to the hilarious. their attempts at displaying humor are awkward and painful to watch. so, its not so much the jokes they make but their attempts to make them.
