first of all, DON'T pay pet store prices. what i did was called one of the ads in the back of birdtalk magazine. i got a baby, hand fed congo grey for $500.00, plus another $150.00 to have him flown from fla. to va. of course that was 8 and a half years ago, but the point is there are bargains out there, you just have to do your research so you won't over pay. below i'll give you a great african grey interactive website with thousands of grey owners and breeders.

I just paid 800.00 but he had 2 missing toes but its the cost of keeping one is the question anyone buying one should ask. The cage I got for 150.00 for a week and the real cage was 500.00 and toys perchs food, accessories are about 160.00 a month and spending the time they demand make a reg kid look independent they are out of thier cagesat least 4 hrs and you will be grocery shopping for them they love to eat but thats like chewing and throwing it on floor. If you go to pet storeand get the mag.Birdtalk in the back just pages and pages of breeders who will give you a good idea of cost.

I raise African Greys. We sell our baby Timnehs for $550 and our baby Congos for $800. we have a waiting list at those prices, and our babies are VERY tame and well-socialized.

Yes, they are a little costly to maintain. They require toys, a roomy cage, quality foods (pellets and seed, along with fresh fruits and vegetables) and treats. But if you are looking for a life-long companion, they are great! Our oldest one is 20 years old this year and he is still so much fun. He still sings with me, and talks and argues!

You never get tired of their intelligence. But because they are so intelligent, you have to make a commitment that this is your "forever" pet.

My Mom has always called them "toddlers with can openers on their faces." They are curious about everything and chew everything they can! She has raised them for longer than I have been alive!

In the pet shop near me they are 900€ which is $1,138. The prices varie the best would be to buy one from a breeder they're normally the cheapest.

A friend of mine has one for sale possibly. They are trying to decide yet, but if they do sell it, it will be $600. He's fairly tame and only 3 or 4 years old if I remember right!
