I'd have to say Albert Bierstadt (http://www.artrenewal.org/asp/database/art.asp?aid=80 ) he did some of the best landscape painting of all time. The renaissance painters were extremely good, but most people overrate them, in my opinion.

I don't particularly like most abstract art- for instance, Jackson Pollock's mostly random sprayings of paint simply and plainly didn't mean anything to anyone but himself. Often abstract art shows good or interesting design and composition, but that should never be mistaken for expression- and the expressions they did convey were usually incredibly vague and ambiguous (which is absolutely NOT a good thing).

There haven't been many really masterful painters in recent years, probably because of the abundance of other art mediums- for instance, film is a much more advanced form of art, in my opinion, for the simple reason that it can convey much more powerful expression then traditional painting- many people who might, a century ago, have become excellent painters are instead art directors in studios.

My greatest painter of all time would be VanGogh. I was so blown away by the colour, brush strokes and powerful expressive forms when I saw his original paintings in Amsterdam. As for a famous artist I dislike... hm maybe Picasso. I admire his innovation, but his paintings leave me so cold.

I fell in love with Master painter MURILLO,Bartolome E. He was an Andalusian(Spanish) Artist from the 1600's. He was under-rated in his time, but one of his paintings are amoung the Top 12 Paintings of all time.
Least favorite? ......None that I can think of.

There are so many great painters that it is hard to choose one; but Matisse is the first name that came up for me. Love his use of color, line, and the design nature that his work evolved into.

The worst: Thomas Kinkade--formulaic kitsch.

Myself.

I dislike anyone who doesn't like my work.

Just kidding! But if you ask a room full of artist this question you should qualify the question: Like, "Besides yourself who in your opinion is ..."

or "What other artists do you greatly admire or dislike?"

You'll be surprised how the answers change.
