THIS IS A SERIOUS QUESTION

I pray you take my answer seriously too. I agree that in this day and age that promotes godlessness and sex and violence among other things, it's quite difficult for any woman to seriously consider becoming a nun, BUT, because of those very same reasons, the NEED for women to become nuns is ASTRONOMICAL!! You won't get any earthly acclaims or wealth or family. You'll get a lot of anonymity and servitude. The glory you'll get from God Himself however, will befit any Saint, of which you will definitely be one. I can tell you that, of the women I have loved in my life, three of the women have been nuns in my upbringing in a Roman Catholic school in Dallas decades ago. Sister Lucretia, who was my fourth grade teacher, Sister Hillary who was my fifth grade teacher, and Sister Jean-Thomas who was my seventh and eighth grade teacher all have been repetitively on my mind over the 40 or so years since I "graduated" from that elementary school. I can't tell you how deep the love is I have for them, as I'm sure more than just me has. Everyone loved the always smiling Sister Hillary, and the other two somehow just "got to you" in their own subtle ways. If you became a nun, belive me, you'll forever be loved by numerous people you work with, and kids you teach, and ultimately THE reason you would become a nun, by God Himself. I pray you do become a nun, and if you do, that you have the strength and depth to stick with it, even through the tough times, like all life has. You'll truly be a Saint, and I'll look for you in Heaven to hug you and give you the praise you deserve. God Bless you, in whichever way He does. And thanks for your question. It once again brought back wonderful memories of wonderful loves in my young life.

In todays society there is so much openness and acceptance of sex, girls can choose many directions to go with their life. Many young women are looking for something more than just what is here in the physical world, they are jumping into things more spiritual and finding that they don't have to be like everyone else to be accepted, the choice to become a nun is probably out of a need to do for others, more than because of sexuality. To put it bluntly they are realizing there is more to life than physical pleasure and they want something more meaningful.

Why wouldn't she. Someone who becomes a nun has a vocation, a calling from God, just as other people have the desire to marry, remain single, become a fireman, mother, etc. Becoming a nun means giving up much for love of God.

To run away from the world, I often think a lot of religious zealots should really become monks and nuns because really they want us all to lead our lives according to their Christian principles..it might be better if they retreated behind secure walls and devoted their own lives to their religion and leave the rest of us to our own devices. But these days religious folk don't want quiet lives of meditation & prayer they want action and to be outt haranguing everyone in the streets and protesting outside harmless entertainments they don't approve of...it's a funny old world.

Either they are seriously depressed about ever having a husband or children and see becoming a nun as being less lonely than dying alone, or they are a religious fanatic.

Because she feels a deep and compelling calling to devote her life to God and service to God and the community.

The same reason (some) women have chosen to become nuns throughout history.

I believe that many women did not choose it though, and were pressured by their families and their churches.

Well, I have heard of a girl who was very religious and when she realized that she was a lesbian it was hard for her to accept that. She didn't believe it was right and to pursure any passions she had would be a sin. So she entered a nunnery and devoted herself to the Lord instead. She felt this was a better way to spend her life than in sin. I didn't agree with her decision. Homosexuality is no sin. But it was easier for her to be a virgin devoted to God than a lesbian.

Many reasons, some not so good and maybe some good. Could be that she has had some bad experience with men, want a lesbian lifestyle and thinks she can get it there, could be she feels it is the best way she can serve God. There are many and varied reasons, some good and some not so good.
