Every race is not fixed but YES many races are fixed and even more so at the smaller tracks.Races are fixed in several ways and by different people.
I don't know all the ways but some tracks are run by organized crime and the jockeys have to do what they are told or else bad things will happen to them.
I have seen some of the results.

It could be a single or group of gamblers buying up the race(as it is called).
The jockeys are paid to pull their horses and the gamblers bet on the winner.
Sometimes a trainer and owner will pull their own horse for several races to make him look bad and then place a big bet on him when the odds are high.
Sometimes horses are given drugs to run faster and sometimes to run slower. If the track is owned by organized crime their(association horses) can be given any type of drugs because they control the state testing if needed. They might own 5 out of 8 horses in a race but they are of course listed under trainers who are working for them.
These things would never of course be admitted by anyone but they do take place.
There are many different scenarios that can and do happen where race fixing occurs.

Harness racing is even more crooked than thorougbred racing because many of the drivers own and train their own horses so there are less people to involve.

Racing can be great when it is honest and I do like it a lot even though I no longer have any inside contact with it.

Sorry to spoil it for anyone but if you think it's all run fairly you are just not in the know as far as racing goes.

LMAO! Are you kidding? Of course it is! Especially in cheaper races. A horse that's old and in a cheap race.. it doesn't matter if they win or not. 1,000,000 races are fixed too.. when there is a clear favorite, second place is fixed, I truly believe it. I know a guy who is a car salesman who sold a car to a trainer. The trainer calls him whenever his horses are running at mountaineer. One day I'm making my bets right and the guy tells me "the trainer just called me and said to put all the money on the 1 horse" I was like 19 to 1? are you kidding? So I dropped 10 dollars on him and he wins wire to wire. Another day the 5 was dead favorite at mountaineer and he tells me while he's on the phone with the trainer "I told the jockey to run the 5 third and to quit at the stretch" exactly what happened. I have more examples. I've seen edgar prado "nations leading jockey" give money to a guy for making him his bets. This was back in the day at pimlico. Oh and a lot of times a jockey will cause the horse to lose momentum to purposely lose whatever place he is in or he'll blow the turn or not whip or even stand up on the horse before the race is over. It's pathetic, horse racing is fixed! Breeders Cup, Kentucky Derby, Florida Derby are not fixed.. I know that much.

Horse racing is the most heavily regulated sport in the country. Horses are drug tested on a level unparalleld in human sports. Big tracks have started pre-race detention barns where horses are monitored up to 6 hours prior to racing. In California trainers have had surveillance placed in their barns. During the running of a race their are stewards watching every part of a race - some from stands placed around the track some watching from the grandstand area. Instant replay? Oh yeah they've got that from as many angles as football. And the penalties for even a questionable ride from a jock can be steep. So no, I don't think racing is fixed.

Yes & no! I've said it before & I'll say it again...There is more money in holding a horse back FROM the finish line than getting them to cross it first! I wonder if greyt-mom has ever been on the backside of a california racetrack? I spent 5 straight years on the Southern California Circuit Hotwalking & Grooming with a CHRB (California Horse Racing Board) License & the reason trainers have cameras set up is due to the tremendous amount of theft & sabbotage of the horses, not to mention the EXTREME amount of illegal drug deals that take place in many barns. It's too bad greyt-mom does not have a working email address, as it has not been verified, according to yahoo oops! The pre-race holding barn has no way of knowing or detecting what you do to your horse, unless they go in the stall with you. Even after the race, all it takes is a well orchestrated plan to have your horses urine & blood sample switched to the "clean" refriderated samples that were taken at an earliar date! This is how the industry "cheats". Even if your horse tests dirty, all you loose is the purse & a fine...you never ever loose your winnings from the many bets that were placed!

No, this is not Italian Football or wrestling. It is true that a limited number of races in the last 40 years may be caused a betting scandal. You only can nobble one horse in one race and there are not many two horse races.

I think some of the races are, but if a horse hurts during the race that can´t be arranged so i think you´ll never really be sure about who will win

Those horses race to win if there are a pack of through-breads in a field they will most likely be racing

When you consider the amount of races on a daily basis then fixing is probably a very small percentage of races. Then again a trainer who races his horses at the wrong distance then produces them when their weight goes down is considered shrewd. But if you listen to a bunch of pissed up beer bellied tosspots who have dun their dosh then it is all fixed

I doubt it, but there is no way to keep jockeys from betting their own horses or another horse in the same field. In other words, jockeys can go for it a bit more when there is a payday in it for them. I am sure this happens from time to time.

yes it is. if your good at figureing odds, and doing statistical studies you will know which horse will come in in what place by studying months of previous horse races at the same track
