yes. He can and he should. It sounds like you are going to get them anyway by any means necessary though.

He certainly can. Didn't say he should. Why would you need pain meds for a year? Is it something that could be helped with physical therapy? I say this because I had two situations where physical therapy helped tremendously - sciatic and frozen shoulder. The shoulder was the pits. Felt like someone was trying to pull my arm off. Had two months of P.T. and followed up with exercise daily at home. Took me a year to get back full motion. Don't even think about it anymore. If yours is a condition where P.T. will not help and you think pain meds will, you had better find a second opinion. Look for a pain management clinic. Good Luck.

In my experience most medications (pain meds or otherwise) that patients are on, especially long term, should be weaned down to prevent rebound and withdrawl effects. If you have been on pain meds for more than a year your body has developed a therapeutic medication level and to suddenly stop the drug can in essence put you into withdrawl. Tapering the dosage and frequency down slowly allows for your body to adjust and to minimize any adverse reactions to the removal of the med from your system. Hope this helps.

A pain med. for over a year,I'm not 100% sure but most long term meds. like that I think should be tapered down till your off them for good. You could just ask a Pharmacist or Docs' office to be sure.It does depend on you and what kind it is.You could also look the Medicine up on the Internet.

It truely depends on what kind you are on. Some kinds you have to been weaned off of due to their contents, some you can just stop... especially if the cause of the pain is gone.

a years a long time to be on pain meds, but if you still need them, the Dr. may suggest a lower does, as you don,t want to be addicted to that. Plus you won,t know if your still in pain till you stop taking the pain meds.

Depends upon the drug. Some yes, some no. Ask your doctor. If you are asking because you are addicted and don't want to stop, it's probably a good thing that he took them away from you.

With pain medication, what you'll get is withdrawal, heart palpitations, severe pain, but not anything life-threatening. I have migraine and detoxed cold turkey twice.

If it's the same doctor that prescribed them I think his judgment can be trusted.

If you're on something like motrin, it probably wouldn't kill you. If you're on something stronger, you may want to taper your dosage.
