Yes, we actually knew of a couple and their kids that became homeless and let them stay with us a few days. We help out many people though.

Yeah, we give periodically to the local rescue mission.
They provide food and shelter to homeless that are
1. Willing to work.
2. Willing to get off of drugs/alcohol.
Then they guide them back into a productive life.
IMO that is the ONLY way to help them. Give them a dollar and they'll spend it on booze. If they're willing to work and make a change in their life the rescue mission is there to help.
Those that refuse to get into the FREE program are not committed enough to make a change. Frankly, they don't want to leave their addictions - so I never give handouts.

Yes, many of them are mentally ill or addicted to drugs and really need help. I honestly haven't seen many "lazy" people who just don't want to work being homeless, though some may exist.

Yes, my family and I save up money in a jar and give it to a foundation that give it to homeless people and people who are very poor/need help.

I have helped out many homeless people, if they were seriously homeless. I've given money, clothing, blankets, food.

Yes. One time I took two of them to McDonald's and got them something to eat, and a coffee. I'll also give up change whenever I can.
