Anderson Cooper & Jodie Foster have been "out" for years. And have spoken about it. Just not politically active. SO thats hardly being "outed". Anderson's mother is Gloria Vanderbilt .. he doesn't talk about that much either. I don't think it is a secret though.

Foster has always been too aloof for my liking. She's never been or done anything repugnant, but seems too cold as a human being.

As for the movie "Contact", I liked it because it was never condescending to either the religious or atheistic view, yet showed the danger of absolutism and closeminded thinking (not to mention the disgusting opportunism of the religious as Tom Skerritt's role showed).

Thankfully it was made while Carl Sagan was alive, and he was ecstatic with the results; if it was good enough for the author, it's good enough for me. Who knows what sort of twaddle would have been fobbed off in his name had he died before it was made?

Think of the travesty that was "I, Robot". Asimov, like Sagan, was an ardent atheist and would never have approved of all the god-crap and violence sold under his book's name.

Additional:

To "jodie_foster_freak",

In case you weren't aware, Jodie Foster is an atheist, as was Carl Sagan who wrote the novel, "Contact". It was one of the reasons she was so enthusiastic about doing the movie for its portrayal of atheists.

By the way, your email address is not confirmed, elsewise I would have sent this privately.

I wanted to see "more" of Jodie; she was a pretty decent actress in that show.

The movie had a pretty good way of showing the inadequacy of "pure science" to answer philosophical questions; it also did a fair job of showing the inadequacy of "pure philosophy" to answer scientific questions.

It's a good way of introducing people to the concept of a "greater God" (a god that is bigger than man), especially if it's part of a "so, whaddya think" discussion following the showing.

30 minutes too long. Matthew was a bit of a putz. A good message got lost in all the hoopla.

Yes!! She was amazing!!! Loved her in it. Great movie, got me to thinking. I am a big science geek, so that was perfect for me. I think she should have believed in God, though. But, it did make me think. There is a lot of wasted space out there if it is just us.

It was good in parts but on the whole I think they spoiled a good book, belabouring all that religious/spiritual stuff.
