I have 3 kids (ages 7, 2, and 1) and want to get them a dog. I would like one that isn't too big, and can live indoors, without shedding all over the house. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

You NEED a bigger dog so it cannot be easily hurt by youngsters. Golden retrivers shed, but you said you are going to keep it outside...won't make much difference. These are well mannered dogs. Labs are also great, but I think that most larger dogs are pretty good with kids...they know the kids are .... kids. Be careful about dogs with a grouchy personality...and each dog has his own personality...you do not want the kids to be nipped. It is your responsibility to train the dog, and it takes work. Have the kids help, and make sure the kids know the ground rules. Good luck

I have a boxer and she loves kids but she likes 2 jump. Boxers r big and can live indoors and outdoors but they shed alot. Labs and Golden Retreivers r good pets. Cocker Spanials and Beagles r very good pets.

The Labrador Retriever. They are good with children, but will be protective if they feel the children are threatened. My brother-in-law once had one he rescued from an Animal Shelter. "Bruno" was so timid, that he would come up to you, and roll over on is back. I once told my brother-in-law that, if provoked, this dog would show some backbone, and he told me I was full of it. One day, we were both over to my mother-in-laws, he with his newly born son. My mother-in-law had a beagle who Bruno would usually shy away from and go lay in the corner anytime she so much as yipped at him. But, when my mother-in-law was holding my nephew in her arms, and the beagle got a little too close, Bruno jumped up, barked very loudly and deeply, and chased the beagle out of the kitchen. He then laid down near my mother-in-law, in as much to tell the beagle not to even think of getting near the baby again. Even though most Labradors are not quite as timid as Bruno, they are fairly gentle, but will be forceful and protective if they sense any family members, particularly the children, are being threatened by others.

A Cocker Spaniel

i'd say a Brittany Spaniel or a Cocker Spaniel, they aren't too small or too big. They are very loyal and come in lots of colors, they, will protect the house very well if the bond is strong or if you get him trained to!

I'd say a lab. Mine sheds mostly during the spring. We keep her brushed daily and bathed once a week.

I would suggest a lab or Boxer. We have both along with 2 children and they are absolutely wonderful with children!
