If you think about it logically, there's got to be more than one god. According to a new book called "The Project" everything was designed by a husband and wife god couple who had their children do the actual creating. The concept's presented in a sci-fi type story that's actually a combination of religious creation beliefs. The characters in the book have fictitious names but it's not hard to figure out who most of them represent. If you'd like to consider this further, go to iuniverse.com and type in the author's name, James Joseph. You'll be able to read the first chapter of the book for free.

Once you accept that the Creator of this universe is God. That means there is no other God. And as Creator of this universe is same we are all children of same God. It can not be possible or logical that every religion would have separate God. The God could be known as different names like Ishwar, Bhagwan, Allah in local language. God is not a privet property of any religion, he is of all and for all religious men and good human being. God and Goddesses in human form are not God that is imagination of God in man mind. It's just idealistic.

First of all: What is a god?

Put in the simplest of terms, God is the creative/destructive/sustainive/everything-in-between force that controls/guides/directs/whatever the universe.

A god in the sense that the human mind comprehends him is a supernatural entity which he creates in his mind to understand this "force". As in the human's nature, he concieves this "god" in human form (most of the time).
Ex. all the gods and goddesses of Greece and Rome were human in form, the gods and goddesses of Egypt were either human or half-human in form, depending on individual deities, the Norse gods and goddesses were all human in form, Jesus for the Christians is a man. The list continues.

Well I am atheist, but accordingly to religions around the world, there exist LOTS and LOTS of gods.

Keep in mind that nearly 2/3 of the world's population believe the story of Jesus Christ and all Christianity is a fairy tale, because they believe in something else. Hindu for instance, or Islam. But then Christians think those stories are fairy tales. Everyone thinks the other religions are fairy tales, and that theirs is correct. For a more thorough explanation of this, go to http://www.godisimaginary.com , proof #7.

So therefore my answer is zero. But if you count all world-wide religions as being true, uncountable number of gods. If only Christianity is true (and 2/3 of the world population is delusional and going to hell for all eternity), then the answer is 1.

Take your pick.

in the sense of the word the number can not be counted, you can worship a pumpkin and it will become a god to you. To me there is only one and jealous as he is and should be when you worship anything besides him you created a God.

just because people believe there is a god, does not mean that god must exist

it has not been proven how many gods there are, so people must remain skeptical

the best thing to do is find credible evidence for what is really out there

There is only one true God.
The Christian God.

--
I used to be an atheist. Over a period of time however, I grew convinced of the existence of the Christian God, and ultimately committed my life to Christ (e.g., see http://www.godsci.org/gs/chri/testimony/seek.html ).

Cordially,
John

Actually, the Old Testament implies MANY gods.

"Thou shalt not worship any other gods BEFORE me, for I am A vain and A jealous god"
