compromise. Tell them you'll get a small goldfish to show that you can take care of a pet. After a while, you ask for the cat, dog, or whatever you want. If they say no, you can point to the goldfish and say "See, i took care of Nemo!"

You have to tell them that going to do every thing for the pet. Like, If you get a dog, you have to feed it, take it out to go for a walk, clean it, and groom it. If you get a cat, you have to spend time with it so you don't hear crying from it in the middle of the night. that's what my cat does. If you get a bunny, you have to give it water and rabbit food and get it a cage. If you a bird (My opinion is don't get one!) you have to get bird food and a big cage for them. And be careful with birds 'cause they make a lot of noise. You can also get them like an obstacle course or small dog toys. If you want a fish, you have buy fish food and toys and a tank. That all means responsibility. It's hard work! I know. My daughter has a crayfish, my husband has fish that live at my Mother-in-law's house, and we have two cats Eugene and Patches. Now that's alot of pets to handle!

I agree with flamingo, but don't ask for about 3-4 weeks after starting.
"Do everything without being asked, dishes, laundry, homework, etc. You have to show them that you are responsible enough to take care of your own pet. Do research on the type of pet you want, and present a convincing argument to them. Good luck"

Dogs are a HUGE responsiblity, and cost a lot of money to care for. Food, vet bills, walking, exercizing, loving. First, ask what their reasons are for not wanting a dog. They may have allergies. There may not be time to care for a dog. They may not like dogs. If it's just because.... Then give them a list that explains why you feel you are responsible enough to have a dog, what you will do to care for and nurture the dog. Ask them to consider your request. Then ask them if you can do anything to prove you are responsible enough to have a pet. If the answer is yes, then show them!!! Good luck!

I actually faced this when I was younger. Here's what you do: Get ten friends together and convince them to pool their money and buy you a pet of your choice. Then, have them give it to your parents as a gift. If it's cute enough, your parents won't have the heart to send it back.

They should understand that having a pet improves the quality of a persons' life. Pets are proven to make people live longer, and be happier, as well as improving responsibility. It'll keep you off the streets in other words.

Get a friend or family member to give it to you as a "gift"
Make sure its someone your parents wouldn't freak out or refuse the gift from.
When your pet comes in, and HAS to stay there I'm sure that they will fall in love with it, just like you will and there will be harmony. :)

That, or just wait till the next stray comes along and they feel sorry for it and let you take it in. Works every time.

Depends on the kind of pet you want..but if you want a dog or cat..the best thing to do is ask them... but
I wonder if you said you wanted a disgusting pet..like a Tarantula...Snake or something..... then your parents will probably say... Why can't you just get a dog or a cat or something like that... eeewww a Spider? or eeeeeeeeeww a snake?....
