If Coca-Cola Zero and Pepsi Max have all the great cola taste and none of the sugar, what's the point in Diet Pepsi and Diet Coke (aka Coca-Cola Light)?

Diet Coke is still a successful product and is a different formula. New Coke was a variation of Diet Coke with more sugar.

According to the company's UK website as of 2004:

* Diet Coke is the #1 selling sugar-free pop in the world;
* Diet Coke is the third-largest brand at the company, and the fourth most-popular carbonated soft drink in the world;
* Diet Coke is sold in 149 countries; in 46 of them, where diet has undesirable connotations, it is known as Coca-Cola Light;
* The top five markets for the brand are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada, and Brazil.
* Some predict that Diet Coke will soon overtake Pepsi as the #2 soft drink in the USA because, over the last decade, Pepsi has lost market share (down to 11.2% in 2005) and Diet Coke has gained market share (up to 9.8% in 2005)

Given this success there is no reason to get rid of the product. Zero and Max target different niches than Diet Coke and Diet Pepsi.

Some people like the taste of Diet Coke (Remember the old commercial, "Just for the taste of it, Diet Coke!")? I personally prefer the Coke Zero and will drink it if I have the choice between the two. But, before it arrived on the market, I was a Diet Coke man, and still drink it when the other isn't offered. BTW. Outside of Meijers (a Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Illinois retail and grocery chain) I have not been able to find Coke Zero in a fountain drink. I prefer fountain over bottled and can soda, so, if anyone knows any other franchise chain that sells Coke Zero in the fountain, please let me know.

Bottom line, there is a market for both, they both sell and make a profit, and so why should Coke want to get rid of a product that is a moneymaker?

I have tried them both and like them..but Coke 0 has a different taste and tastes more like the real Coke with sugar has a fresher flavor but again I buy what is on sale so I am not stuck on one kind..

I hope the zero refers to the price of the rubbish stuff, because all these type of brands are over priced.
