As an English teacher and freelance editor, yes, it bugs the snot out of me. On the other hand, I have to remember that folks are up way past their bedtimes, trying to get their thoughts out quickly and typos happen.
To me, especially!
So I try to be merciful...on the other hand, when there is a boneheaded, arrogant question that's also full of misspelled words, I might sometimes mention the misspelled words...
Also, for many folks here, English is not a first language and for others, making a living has had to take priority over paying for an education....so I err on the side of tolerance for most misspellings.

I don't think it does really.. it just looks untidy. I don't get annoyed because there are a lot of people on Y!A for whom English is not a first language. Also a small minority are dyslexic (but I think a lot of people use it as an excuse).

However, rightly or wrongly, I'm sure most people make a subconscious judgement as to the writer's intelligence or educational level when they see misspelling. So it's really not in the writer's interest to take no care over their spelling.

yeah, but a lot of the time you just have to accept it - we all misspell stuff on purpose in text messages and often in e-mails too.

i think it's also a reflection of people's education - if they don't spell a word correctly and it's obviously not just an abbreviation, then it probably means they've never learned how to spell it correctly.

it's only really a problem when you can't understand what someone means. otherwise, that's just how english develops.

did you know that the word 'chav' has been put in a dictionary??

God yes but the annoyance level is nothing compared to the fury that the use of text speak invokes. Text speak for mobile phones fair enough save a penny or two, is it really necessary in e-mails?

To be honest it makes me feel very sorry for the writer. As a teacher, it makes me feel that others are not doing their job properly. Going by the way some of the questions are spelt, it seems that there are a lot of lousy teachers out there.

Not at all. I focus on the meaning, not on the grammar. Does it annoy you if I hammer a nail with a shoe instead of with a hammer? Languages are instruments. It doesn't matter how you use them, if you manage to get your message through.

Yes. Specially when it is in some text I've written. That really annoys me. Also when other people do it, but not as much. For instance.. I don't really care that you have those mistakes.

nope. there are several reasons for this. someone could have dyslexia and seriously not know how. someone could hit submit before thinking of the spellcheck...or it could be someone else who really thinks they spelled it right. no big deal. no one is going to get struck down for not spelling something right.

Nope, Im too laid back to worry how people spell things and who am I to judge, perhaps they are younger or less educated or have trouble reading or spelling.
