Such an easy question.
Most donut sellers are intimidated by uniformed people, so they offer them free donuts. This is a good thing for a number of reasons:
1. Cops are underpaid and can't really afford to buy donuts.
2. When was the last time you heard of a donut shop being broken into and robbed of 3 glazed, 3 honey-dipped, 3 jelly, 3 cinnamon, and 1 plain?
3. Most donut shop are located next to gas stations which is incovenient for robbers.

Donuts help the coffee go down which keeps cops alert so they can react quickly to an emergency.

Coffee and donuts are usually free or discounted to police officers. It's a perk of being in law enforcement.
I'm not sure if it's still like that but it used to be FREE

they eat other things besides donuts, you know. I think that it is just is something they pick up when they get their coffee. They need to be alert, so they need their coffee.

YOu know what? That is NOT true! They love to eat bagels and drink Starbucks where i live!
