As someone who is a MAJOR cat lover and has MAJOR allergies, ie., (3 shots 3 times a week for 4 years) and getting ready to do it all over again, I can tell you that he is NOT allergic to the FUR, it is the saliva from where the cat licks itself and the danger causes allergic reactions.

You can convince your dad to get a cat by telling him you'd keep the cat far away from him so he doesn't have is allergies. You could also get a cat and put something over the fur. If that doesn't work you could get a cat and let your friend have it. Then, you could visit the cat any time and your dad won't have his allergy signs.

Either get one of those spinx hairless cats, or my choice, to have it oudoors. To keep it outdoors, this is the way. Once you get your new kitten, spay/Neuter it. This reduces the chance of the cat straying. Second bring the cat hungry so that you feed it as soon as it gets home that way it knows you fed it. If you want guaranteed results that it wont run away right away, keep it on a harness or leash just for that moment so that it gets to know you. Thats what i did and it stays outdoors without wandering around the neiborhood. For the breed of the cat, I suggest you get an Abyssinian cat or a siamese Cat. If You want a long haired get a Maine Coon Or a Somali. These Cats Have high energy and have very good defense and hunting skills making them good for the outdoors. Hopefully this helps and please choose mine for the 10 points. Thank You.

You will need to wait till you can move out on your own. If your dad is allergic to cats and has to live in a house with a cat, he will be miserable every time he walks in the door.

Try a hairless cat. Before that though see if you can try an outdoor cat. I know it sounds weird but there is such a thing. But if that does not work. You can help out at a local animal shelter. They will have plenty of cats there. That you can take care of.

You don't try to convince your father. That would be immature and selfish. Your father would suffer day and night if there were a cat in the house.
Either get an outdoor cat or a stuffed cat toy. I love my stuffed teddy bear. It is the greatest pet ever. Doesn't eat. Doesn't poop. Doesn't get sick. Perfect.

No.. it will be torture for him. There are treatments for allergic people, but you shouldnt have to make him suffer. You can see if you can find a really light shedding cat, or go to small dogs. There are many breeds of small dogs that people who have allergies can handle. My mother was allergic to all cats and birds and the such, but we found a breed of dog (Westie) she wasnt allergic to.

Well, my dad was allergic to cats his entire life until we actually got one. How that worked, I don't know. But he has absolutely no problems now.

Tell your dad that you don't love him as much as you would love the cat. Then tell him that if he loves YOU, he should let you get the cat.
Allergies are very serious. People who are allergic to outdoor allergens sometimes have to stay indoors to avoid exosure. People allergic to cats, must also avoid exposure. People can get very sick from prolonged exposures.
