Is there much difference between lemon and lime juice as far as health issues go? In the country in the Dominican Republic, people use lime juice to cleanse the system in general.

However, in Puerto Rico there isn't even a different word for lime. People really don't see much difference although they may say, "Este limón verde" to point to a lime.

I actually prefer lime juice for drinking, putting on papaya and cooking but is there some research on the differences between lemons and limes?

Too much citric acid, which is what make your lips pucker when sucking on a lemon, can lead to damage to your stomach wall lining. Drinking too much lemon, orange, or grapefruit juice can lead to this problem. Citric acid will also eventually weaken the enamal coating of your teeth. Like Socrates said, all things in moderation.

I am not very good dietician but as far as I know from my self studies, lemon juice is good to cleanse your bowels, its good for constipation, especially if you drink in hot water first in the morning. I would suggest fresh squeezed lemon juice rather than ready made one that you can buy in the market. Another advantage is that it makes your skin good. But after taking lemon juice, if you feel that you got belching or stomache upset, then you must not drink too much or even stop taking it. Lemon juice also gives vitamin C which is required for our body.

Lemon juice is good due to its content of C vitamin, however, too much lemon juice can cause sever stomach wounds, and your blood will get lighter (you'll get anemic).

I never heard that drinking lemon juice was good for you, but we used to let our kids eat lemons & the doctor told us it was bad for the enamel on their teeth - go figure!

They said, " Take 1 freshly squeeze lemon
with 1 tablespoon of honey (without h2o) is good
for cleansing and can kill fungus/bacteria in you
However, like everything else, go for moderation.

I wouldn't drink pure lemon juice, as that'd be too sour. I bet if you take small amounts of it that would be best. Taking too much lemon juice would probably make you constipated.

Seriously, I have heard that it is a natural diuretic.............I dont know what negative side affects it would have unless you are sensitive to the acids in citrus fruit.
