Here are some ideas...

Picnic, sightseeing drive, visit museum or library, Camp out in the back yard (bring out the tents and sleeping bags and have a barbecue), Run in the sprinkler, have a family contest (board game, sack race, shadow puppets), take turns telling a story each person adding a sentence to the last (this can get very funny), team up to bake and decorate sugar cookies, play pretend with your kids, have a talent show each person playing the part of a character in one of your family's favorite movies, go through the garage or attic to share memories of the past, tell your husband how you feel for him and tell the kids how special they are.

Look up local museums in the yellow pages. See if there are any weird ones(like the Bata Shoe Museum of Shoes if you are in Toronto, Ontario,Canada) or any Outside Attractions that are interesting or unusual(The Busker Festival in Edmonton Alberta for example) and go. You will have fun, you will see something different, and you will re affirm that it is a mad mad world. Avoid the Disney stuff because that is just too generic.

I live in Edmonton, these links are a partial listing of museums, there are about six more museums not on this list, two are wacky, and this is just Museums, not art galleries or corporate tours, or zoos. it does not cover music or cultural heritage events. I have put them here for you to click to get an Idea of what I mean

Ice cream for the kids and for the kid at heart in all of us adults, is a nice way to start the day.

Combine that with some exercise, or a nice drive to a park afterwards will do wonders for the mental health too.

A drive to a beach might be the ideal thing here. Make sure the trip is filled with alot of fun on the way.
