He also grinds his teeth and sleeps under our bed all the time. We have started to bring food to him.
Does this sound familiar? Is he dying? He is very old....

Ok.. Called the vet.. Only one vet in my entire city is open on weekends and they charge 4x what any normal vet charges.
He asked me some key questions. I can get my cat to drink, eat etc. No big worry there. He is not dehydrated.. Basically all they can do is a blood panel and send me home- maybe an mri. I am taking my cat to my regular vet (down the street) on Monday. It sounds like a stroke. He is not walking on his toes anymore, he walks on his knees (legs completely contorted). Walks along the walls. Left rear leg almost draging. He also goes down stairs sideways. I gave him cat nip and he 1st peed in it and then rolled.. He is not to un-normal.. He is walking around with his head twitching though... Thanks for your swift answers..

This could be a stroke, or a brain tumor. It could also be a disease contracted outdoors. Is he strictly an indoor cat? Get him to the vet as soon as possible. If he is dying, the vet can recommend ways to relieve his suffering.
Sorry to hear your cat is having trouble. If he is dying, comfort yourself by knowing that the end will relieve his suffering. And the fact that he had a long and wonderful life with a family that loved him dearly.

Stop being cruel and take your cat to the vet. The head twitching and the swaying can either be a stroke or a balance problem. The poor thing is twitching it's head because the room is spinning.

My 18 yr old cat had a stroke and she began walking along the edge of the walls because she couldn't walk without some sort of support. The vet told me cats recover really well and quickly from strokes. I had to work with her and exercise her regularly, making her walk toward me with my help. She did recover - and fast too. She lived another year and a half. Take him to the vet and my thoughts and prayers will be with you and your kitty.

It could be a stroke or something like diabetes. Frankly it could be a lot of things. With a stoke I'd expect it to effect mostly one side of his body. You should take your cat to a vet, and have a frank discussion on it's quality of life.

That is so sad to see a loved pet get old. I praise you for keeping it and loving it as I think you do. You did not say HOW old it is but it does not sound like a stroke but may be cancer of some type.. in the brain... Keep it as long as you can and care for it..

Im sorry, but its only a cat and you shouldn't get so worked up about it. They are pretty cheap to replace, and dont need much work so they are good pets, but its never worth getting worried about it. If you got sick, do you think it would phone the doctor for you? Of course not.

you're saying his old could be his dying but before you go there have his vet check him out.

he may not be dying, he may just be sick. since I'm not a veterinarian, just an animal lover, I can't say exactly what it is for sure. I think you should take him to a vet though.
