Depends how many people you are making it for. It is best to allow 1 egg per person. Say for example you are making it for 4 people you will need 4 eggs and about 1/4 pt of milk. Whisk the eggs and milk together in a bowl either by hand or electric (if you are lucky), then you need to decide to have it savoury or sweet. Sweet french toast should have 2 tsp of sugar added and a pinch of salt. If you want savoury add about 1/2 tsp of salt. Once you have done this heat a little oil in a frying pan and place a slice of bread into the egg mix, let the mixture soak into it, turn it over and repeat. When the bread has absorbed a good amount of the mixture place it into the frying pan and cook until golden on both sides. This should give you enough for two slices per person. Good luck and happy cooking

Get some multi-grain sliced bread. Multi-grain is richer and better for you than the nasty white bread most people use for French Toast.
4 eggs
1 Cup of milk
1 Teaspoon of vanilla (the real stuff, not the artificial junk)
1/4 tsp of ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp of cinnamon, NOT cinnamon sugar
1/8th tsp of ground cardamom or ginger
Use a mixer and blend, blend, blend together.
Pour mixture in flat bowl. Dip both sides of the bread in the mixture and place on hot lightly oiled griddle. You can use fresh bacon grease or butter as well. Watch the bread while it browns. Do not turn your back on it. Flip after a minute, and let it brown on the other side. Remember to watch it like a hawk. You do not want it to burn!
No need for additional sugar in the batter. Your 100% Natural Real Maple Syrup will be all the sugar you need and then some!

This a simple way but as you will see there are many ways to make it..I use plain old white bread and take a bowl with 2 eggs beaten and about 3/4 cup milk. Get a pan hot with vegetable oil (like you would fry pancakes) Dip your bread a slice at a time in the egg/milk mixture and fry on both side until golden brown..serve with butter and syrup..you can also you Cinnamon raisin bread, use sugar and Cinnamon in the egg mixture, some use a heavier bread or a thicker slice bread..the secret is to get your bread moist but not soaked so it falls apart..hope this helps...

Stir eggs in bowl, add a little water or milk, dip bread in covering each side, put on grill or in pan. Most people use 1 egg per slice of bread - but with cholesterol worries, you might want to cut that down a bit. Some people add Cinnamon to the egg - others put pancake syrup on after the French toast is done.

Whisk two eggs and a little milk in a square casserole dish. Add salt and freshly ground black pepper. Choose your favourite bread and cut in half. Soak the bread in the milk and egg mix. When removing the bread allow any excess egg mix to drip off for a few seconds. Place the bread in a frying pan with enough hot oil to shallow fry it until golden brown on both sides. For extra tasty french toast cook in the fat from smoked bacon.

Break 2 eggs into a pie pan or shallow bowl. Add 1 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/4 cup milk. Mix with fork until blended. Dip bread into the eggs one by one, on both sides. But don't soak with too much egg; there is a knack to this that takes practice. Stack the bread onto a little plate. Now melt butter in a frying pan on medium heat. Get it ready and bubbling, add the bread and brown on both sides. Serve with syrup and bacon....now I'm getting hungry!.

i crack a few eggs into a square-ish bowl, then pour some milk into it... not a lot, but like a ratio of 2:1, eggs to milk. then i sprinkle some cinnamon sugar (= best tasting FT ever) in the mix and whip it up. then have a slice of bread, dip it into the mixture on each side. my mom once told me never to let the bread actually soak up the mixture, but get both sides covered in it. put it in a frying pan with a little butter and flip when one side is brownish and french toast-like, and then the other side.
:) yum
