The law does not require one to be an enrolled agent to prepare a tax return. However, I recommend seeking a CPA to do your taxes, because joe blow might not know anything about taxes. You could always learn how to do taxes yourself. It would save money. There is a lot of information at the irs website at www.irs.gov. Check it out!

I beleive a enrolled agent is someone the IRS recognizes as qualified to represent a taxp payer in disputes with the IRS. This is not a requirement to prepare returns.

No. Certified Public Accountants (CPA) and attorneys in good standing can prepare tax returns without enrolling.
